What you want for irradiance is watts per square meter .

Check out this presentation, with a little algebra (and the photodiode characteristics from the spec sheet), you can calculate Ee photodiode.

Could this indicate a faulty/broken ....
The voltage output is always 0V, and i've tried various resistor values .
On the photodiode, but i'm still getting no alteration in the voltage level when placing the laser diode near the photodiode.

I am working on GaN photodiode by using sentaurus TCAD. How to fall light on my device? Please specify all the commands used for light falling in device section and in parameter file. Give any imaginary values for wavelength, intensity etc..

With an external photodiode you at least have a good idea of eth
photodiode responsivity, and can work out rough calibration.
photodiode will look at a tap
of the power coming from the backfacet.
