Hi all,
The forums have been upgraded to phpBB 3.0.9. Along with this, I've updated our Tapatalk plugin, and our anti-spam plugin. Whether the latter will have any effect on the amount of spam we're getting, I don't know, but we can only hope!

I need to run a simple forum. I have limited control of the box, so I need something with the same runtime requirements as phpBB.
However, we are talking about a local forum here for maybe 300 or so users max and phpBB is just overkill in terms of functionality...

phpBB may be overkill for you but so whatI just run a VM with ....
SimpleMachines Forum (SMF) seems pretty good.
Here's a demo forum releases.
It works somewhat differently than phpBB, but is really nice to use.

This is the million dollar question, I see it time and time again on here and other php coding related sites and forums but I have NEVER seen an answer to it.

This is a question really aimed for David / ash and anyone else who has set forums up on webspace. Is phpBB easy to set up?
I recall from Burf's site, that it is easy for spammers to create hoax users and hope that there is a solution to this problem...

FWIW, I do think phpBB is falling behind other forum software with the biggest difference being idea behind forum software is soon to go the way of the dodo bird due to facebook, etc.
