I have a 2004, VW Tansporter campervan, which is great in every respect except for the painfully loud seatbelt reminder. Is there any way to disable this feature or at least make it a softer, gentle reminder rather than clanking cymbols.

Should read that the US doesn't have seatbelt warnings, and other markets only have it for the drivers seat in the ignition.
You know, with it being the law and all..
Putting your seatbelt on should solve this issue.

Something precious bear said on the speed hump thread made me think to ask this.
I have a friend who, every time she gets into my car, I have to remind to put her seatbelt on. I'll be blowed if I'm going to cop a fine for someone else not doing the right...

I have my wife's immaculate 2006 GTi for sale.
Car was originally my sons company car which my wife bought when the lease was up. Carefully driven with 74000 miles. Absolutely immaculate as can be appreciated form the photos. All wheels have no kerb damage...

Process is switch on ignition, then plug and unplug.
Make the seatbelt warning ping shut up by
doing and undoing the safety belt onto the buckle really fast cancel the seatbelt chime, I hated it anyway.

It had moisture at some point (seatbelt mold spots), but no smells, all electronics work, etc.
