I cant remember the exact.
Probably best to cut the plants right back - they will put on a huge growth spurt in the spring are very hardy and pruning not hard to do, you can prune them back quite a lot.

I too am sold on pruning, the plants just seem healthier when trimmed of growth is, ie; Is a plant pre-determined to produce x amount of bud therefore pruning lower branches we can do this ....

I have found if the plant is rock solid....
Imho your best bet is to start tying down the taller plant.
You can prune a few leaves here and there during flowering if they're shading major budsites; the largest buds on the plant.
