Some apps and IDEs recommend installing the debug version of the Adobe Flash player. I know this allows seeing trace statements even when not running Flash via Test Movie, but what else is different? Anything?

Along with what quoo mentions, the Debug player will show a popup ....
It allows you of course, as you mentioned you inspect variables a bit more easily with the debug player.
I'm not sure the debug player is slower.

We are making a site like twitter/facebook and it has an API, obviously. Which one has the best API implementation for developers so if we shared with others they could easily use it with their own skins? So far I like flow player, but jw has more features...

The Flow player does an excellent job-hwdvs/19779-flowplayer-vs-jw-player....
I have had success with JW player in the past, however, with both of these, you are looking at pretty big licensing fees for using it in a corporate setting.

On the Mac, Flash Player is not GPU accelerated. On top of that it is horribly inefficient. This means that if I open 5 tabs with Flash video things slow down like crazy.
Is there a way to stream Flash video into something that is not Flash Player and...

One drawback: VLC does not show what part of video is already downloaded like standard player does with corresponding embedded VLC (or any other native player).
