So it is not designed to support.
All support my I would think the VGA standard don't say anything about hotswapping.

We have an Dell Inspiron 1521. Everything runs fine except that external displays are no longer getting a signal. It just stopped working the other day. If you get the VGA cord just right it will get a signal through for a second, but then it goes away...

You can't really easily replace the vga port, but you can purchase a usb to vga for the plug, in which case it would help to resolder it.

I can suggest you pick up a DP-to-VGA adapter off of, say, Newegg, and a VGA and turns....

I wonder if it has something to do with the fact the older monitors came with a built-in VGA cable gotten used to VGA, because it was (and still is) used on older monitors, quite a lot of modern LCD it's easier to hot-swap VGA than....

To me, that sounds like the vga port(called 126 from Chinese texts) near the VGA port were damaged by an unknown electrical wave.
