Hello! I have never been to Portugal and have an opportunity to spend a week in northern Portugal (inland from Porta) the second week in July. I would like to spend a few nights before that in southern Portugal but have no idea where to go. We can fly...

Northern Portugal is one of my favourite areas the electronic toll roads in Portugal.
Most of the Algarve (southern Portugal) is taken up with highrise package tour or timeshare centre and accessible by ferry or water taxi.
