Swedespeed Forums: IPD AMS, FMIC and IPD CAI?

If I am installing an IPD AMS (Same as Evolve AMS) including the Evolve hood grilles and a FMIC (e.g.

Phuz) can I then retire my existing IPD (R Kelly) CAI? Does it make any difference at all with the above mods and is it at all possible to install this with the IPD AMS?

I would still use the R Kelly intake as well.

IMO there is no such thing as too much cool air getting into the air box.

In fact I have a B-Line intake with hood grille and I'm still using my R Kelly intake.

Remember, the only cold air that is coming into that system is via the stock intake, which we know doesn't supply enough air under full boost (especially if you are running ECU mod).

That means the AMS will pull some air off the engine bay, although any negative effect is probably neglible depending on your heat soak condition. However, the CAI will blow lots of cold air directly onto the filter, and in your case, any excess cold air will help keep your engine bay cooler as you attain higher speeds.

"R" Kelly, Do you have any idea how much air would get sucked into the intake via the hood grille installed?

You have seem to of done tons or research regarding your intake so I'm Just curious what your thoughts on this would be.

You have seem to of done tons or research regarding your intake so I'm Just curious what your thoughts on this would be. There was a lot of debate on this...and I don't have hood vents. What I would reccomend is to tie a piece of yarn to the outside of the hood vent, and start driving.

See if the yarn gets sucked down into engine bay, or out sucked out into airstream over the hood.

That should let you know what the air pattern on the boundary layer of the hood is doing, and whether hood vent will help blow air onto intake, or suck it away from intake.

Effect may vary with speed. Please report back your results, I'm curious to see if what other people told me holds true with AMS system.

I kept my IPD CAI and routed it to the bottom of the Evolve AMS.

It's not putting any positive pressure, just cooler air. 2006 S60R GT, Black Saphire, Gobi, Premium Pkg, 18 Ronal RT's w/Eagle F1 AS 235 40 18's, Seat Heaters (No Climate), JRL Mod, ipd R Kelly CAI.

If you have the RKelly, i dont believe there is a need for an AMS... For me, the stealth factor of the CAI is a highlight (I have two that feed my airbox), but the AMS looks really cool, and will produce cool turbo/intake sounds. Also, if you remember, below 30 mph the CAI helps alleviate the vacuum, but can't completely eliminate it under full boost until going a little faster.

Of course it does produce positive pressure in the airbox at 40+. But I totally understand if someone wants to do IPD AMS, I just think they should order the CAI to feed it at the same time.

When not under full boost the extra air cold air from CAI sholuld flow up over the engine, and most likely exit down the back side, that can only help keep under hood temps down.

I dont believe hood scoops provide much additional air for the intake due to the flat design.

Their main benefit is routing hot air through the hood since it rises. 2004 Volvo S60 R -- Black Sapphire / Atacama, MT, Climate, Premium, Sport Package, 18" Wheels Peg., BLACKED-OUT .

I think the hood vents are mostly for the looks.

I do think it looks sharp.

I do think it looks sharp. Here, here!

So let's say that I want to install the AMS and then later on go with the Viva turbo upgrade as well.

That upgrade will need Aquamist (what I understand). Where do I then put the Aquamist when the AMS is sitting all over the suggested place for the Aquamist??

Inside the AMS You don't 'need' the aquamist - it's a 'suggested' upgrade, and how they got the dyno results that they did.

It is by no means 'necessary.'
