Question about FX / The Shield - MTG Salvation Forums
So, a while ago, I watched re-runs of The Shield on Spike TV.
Recently, I got the dvds and am starting to watch the episodes from the beginning.
I noticed right away in the first episode that it includes cursing.
I vaguely remember hearing editted curse words on the Spike re-runs, but I'm not sure.
I know that The Shield runs on the FX network....does that network allow cursing?
As far as I was aware, only "premium" type channels like HBO do, but I could be wrong.
Anybody care to enlighten me about this?

All cable channels are not held to any standards as far as "bad" words go.
The only reason some channels refuse to show nudity/profanity is just to keep the general populace happy and their advertisers.
That's why South Park constantly pushes the boundaries on that stuff because Comedy Central is a bit more bold in that regard.
They have had many episodes where they use more profanity without the bleep then any other show Ive seen, that's not on HBO or a Showtime type channel.
The FCC steps in on major networks (Fox, NBC, CBS) but not on channels like (Spike, FX, TNT, TBS).
HBO and Showtime do whatever they want nearly, because they don't rely on advertisers so they feel they can take more liberties with late night programming.

Original series that runs on FX shows partial nudity and does have some language.
They say "S**t" and pretty much everything but the f-bomb without bleeping.
That's why it's on at 10 pm.
The inclusion of this type of dialog makes the show more real than what is played out on network TV.
This is why these shows and channels get better ratings and have better quality writting than the major networks.
The Shield starts up again in September for its last season I'm so excited and sad at the same time!

I really disliked this show.
But after hearing of what your question was, i decided to investigate.
(ala renting previous seasons on dvd)
I see what your saying though, and yea, they did clean it up a bit.
Which, seemed odd for a show like this.
But, i guess that's how they lure fans.
Ya know? curse like crazy, get lotsa fans, and then clean up the language a bit.
Kinda works for some cable shows.
I guess.
