Pregnant after Fertility Issues / Long Term (12m+) TTC - MoneySavingExpert.com Forums

Hi Ladies (and any gents whose partners are in this position IYSWIM!). As promised, here is the thread for those of us who have 'graduated' from the '12m+ TTC' thread, and want somewhere to have a natter, moan or share our pregnancy stresses and worries! In the true spirit of MSE - please include as many Pregnancy Money Saving tips as possible! Dear Board Guides - We are of course aware that there is already an 'MSE Pregnancy Club' thread, but several of us have agreed we find that it's difficult to fit in there for several reasons - some because it moves too fast for us to keep up, others because having been TTC for a long time or having gone through fertility treatments to get to this point, we feel that we have worries and/or issues which don't 'fit' on the existing thread.

So we are hoping that you will let us keep this thread separate from the other - even if our 'members' choose to post on the existing thread from time to time as well!

Thank you. Ladies, if you want to include your EDD's in your post and make them bold I'll add them to this list! ESTIMATED DUE DATES: Nicki 3rd October 2009 Nottlass 26th January 2010 Somnium 27th February 2010 FairyElephant 7th March 2010 Nikabella 21st March 2010

Hiya FE, How is everything going?

How are you feeling? I am not too bad, just v tired! I am 8+1 now and am still worrying all the time, but it will either be ok or it just wont, so am trying not to worry too much.

Aww finally a new home Thanks for starting this FE, hope we are allowed to keep it Well just back from a couple of days at Mums, being spoilt rotten lol.

Not much to report except still no real symptoms other than tiredness and am feeling suprisingly well. Hope we'll see more joining us here soon

'Morning Ladies! Well I had a busy weekend - friend had an engagement party and we helped with setting up gazebo's, furniture etc, and I had my best mate with my gorgeous godson (3yrs 3 months) staying with me - so house was chaos!

He has so much energy, I don't know how I will cope if I have one like him She is expecting again (22 wks now), and is one of the few people who knows about us, so we had lots of baby-chat! KT1985, I'm about 8 days being you!

7 wks today. I'm a bit more realxed about it now we had the scan last Thurs and know that there is really a baby there (and it has a heartbeat!) - looking forward to this Thurs now as they are doing a follow-up (trying to check what happened to emby #2 - given my history there's always a concern of another ectopic) but I am trying not to worry about it - looking at it as another chance to see 'blob' and especially to see the flickering heartbeat - I was a bit too shocked and emotional last week to take it in! Somnium - good to 'see' you!

I'm v.tired too, and a bit headachey, but apart from a couple of bouts of feeling nauseaous at the w/e (was not actually sick though, thank goodness) I feel OK actually.

Could do witjhout the stress of this redundancy-thing, but trying not to let it bother me too much! Hopefully Nottlass & Nicki will be along to join us soon, and really hope that the others from TTC 12m+ get here soon too! All the best, FE

I'm here! I noticed that on the main ttc+ thread, after we opened a new one with a graduates list at the front, that some of the girls who haven't had their BFPs yet, have been quite a bit more upset than normal, and also feeling more sensitive about the number of pregnant women who are around them.

Not helped I think by a few newbies who joined the thread just to post they were pregnant after trying for a while.

I know that all the girls there are happy for those that they know who have finally got here, and like to hear from us now and again but maybe we should try to be extra careful at the moment not to make things worse over there?

I remember how upsetting it was back in the day to have to be pleased for others when hurting so much for your own situation. Otherwise, today is the first day of the summer holidays for DS1, and DD breaks up on Tuesday.

I am 30 weeks this week, and not specially looking forward to six and a half weeks of mayhem, particularly if the swine flu advice for pregnant ladies remains not to travel by public transport or go into crowded places, and especially not if the government do decide to shut all the schools for September too, as was reported yesterday!

My current game plan is to get them both back at school in the first week of September, have a week to tidy up the chaos they'll have left, then pop junior out mid to end September

Hi Nicki, That's just what I was thinking, so thought it would be good for us to have somewhere else to have a natter!

Also, I for one can't cope with the main PG thread - I don't always get a lot of time to read and post, and it goes so fast I can't keep up! I noted the advice for PG women re Swine Flu had been updated.

Tricky isn't it? One minute they are telling you all this - then the next they say - 'just behave as usual but be aware of the risks' - so do they want us to change our behaviour as per their advice or what?!?! One thing I am a bit happy about is that I found out when I went to the Early Pregnancy Clinic at one of our area health-centres last Friday that it is becoming the local 'Swine Flu HQ' so all the services which had been centralised there are being devolved out again to the smaller health centres and GP surgeries...happily this means that I get to see midwives at my local health centre/GP's, which is walking distance, rather than having to travel to the other one, so a result for me at any rate! I don't think they have too much experience with IVF ladies though - I was trying to fill in the preliminary forms, but they are totally confused as regards my dates!

Good thing I have done all my research - I ended uphaving to tell them my EDD 'cos they couldn't work it out LOL!!!!

I hope I didn't upset anyone on the other thread- I had been following it for so long and just wanted to say how helpful it had been. Had a private scan on Saturday- everything was great, even got a little 3d pic too, which is odd but lovely too. Starting to allow myself to think about what we are going to need to buy/borrow/be given which also feels totally weird! Tired today, and am just getting hungry...

Found you Whoopee,I'm all excited - we've got a new home TBH I was getting a little worried about posting too much on the other thread - I didn't want to upset anybody. I've got my fingers crossed that we'll get lots of "new recruits" from the TTC 12m+ thread. Have been to legoland for the w'end - had a great time & DS loved it. In true MSE style we stayed in a £9 travel lodge room & used Bogof entry tickets !!! Had an eventful journey home today - we had a tyre blow out,not good when you're in the fast lane on the motorway .

Hit the central reservation, the car spun round twice and flew across all 3 lanes - I literally saw my life flash before me !!! Amazingly we all walked away without a scratch.

(Thank god for Volvo's ) The cars a bl**dy write off, its cost £250 quid to be towed away ,so much for a cheep week end !!! We were only insured 3RD party F&T, so wont be able to claim anything.OH only passed his test 3 years ago so fully comp was mega bucks. I know that the important thing is that we're all OK,but we're going to have to seriously juggle finances to finance a new car,oh well you live and learn. Take care everyone & I'll tell you all about my mega baby bargains from the next sale.

Ok, I just hoped in from the other thread (sorry, will find the door out soon).

All I wanted to say, please, come back and let us know how you are doing.

You know what we are going through, and I am sure others will agree, that it is great to hear your uplifting stories!

Try and keep us away.lol I'll still be having a sneaky daily peak & will be following eveyones journey with baited breath & crossed fingers. Love and baby dust to you all X

Crikey, nottslass, that sounds absolutely terrifying.

Glad everyone is OK though.

Good old volvos - remember the Dudley Moore film about advertising: "volvos: they're boxy but they're safe!"

Notslass, have had the not so pleasurable experiance of crashing a volvo and agree they are the thing to be in if your gonna do it!

Glad your safe tho, I had a huge crash 6 years ago (rolled my brand new vectra) and know they are horrid.

Bargains you say, next I hear?

Tell, tell lol. Niki - I agree its tough on these ladies even if they say other wise, and like you I felt a lil out of sorts posting there.

Its nice to have are own more mellow paced thread to follow. FE - as the place starts to pick up it might be worth having a running list of posters and there EDD like on the PG thread, what do you think?

Ginvzt - you are welcome!

We will pop back and update you from time to time, but don't want to 'rub it in' as we appreciate that although we can be happy for other people's 'success' it also hurts when it's not you, and we don't want to cause anyone any more pain than they already are going through.

Hope you will all feel free to pop in here as well whenever you want! Somnium - that is a great idea about the EDD's!

Do you think we should have it on the 1st post and keep updating it there, or have people copy'n'paste and add to it along the thread?

I've not done one of these before (can't you tell?!?!). Nottslass - crikey how scarey! We had a blowout earlier in the year when we were towing in the 2nd lane - I was just dropping off to sleep (DH was driving of course - LOL!) when the huge bang, I thought someone had hit us, as I opened my eyes we were shooting across the road!

Luckily DH did not panic at all and controlled the car & trailer perfectly as poss and brought us to a stop on the hard-shoulder. As we'd been camping, we had chairs etc in the car, so we set up in the field next to the motorway and when the breakdown guy came we were wrapped in blankets eating sarnies & drinking lemonade - he was most amused!

It was a very scary experience though, and I would not like to repeat it! So glad that you are all OK.

I know it is an unpleasant situation money-wise, but as they say, cars can be replaced but you can't!

(((HUGS))) Hun. I'm starting to think about further scans now - the EPC gave me a load of leaflets including ones about having an Oscar done -which they say is about £200.

Given my age (39) I know the risk of downs is higher so thinking maybe we should get this done, but so hard to decide.

What are the rest of you ladies thinking/doing? FE

Morning ladies, Got loads of stuff in the next sale. I was lucky enough to get a VIP slot on Wednesday evening (before all the good stuff went) The best Bargain was a Mclaren buggie £70 was £140 maternity jeans £45 to £15 (got a couple of pairs) I got a few tops and some maternity trousers for work. Also got lots of baby clothes at at least 50 % off - sleep suits, vests and a couple of outfits.I still can't quite believe that I'm going to have any use for it all.lol FE, I had the NTT scan last week, and the risk of downs was calculated at that of a 35 year old,so have decided not to have any additional tests. We think that we may have one of those 4D scans, they are about £120 in our area - mind you OH thinks that the babies look like Aliens !! The morning all day sickness seems to have gone now,I'm just waiting for the tiredness to ease a bit. I can't do up any of my normal clothes now,but feel a bit of a fraud wearing maternity stuff already - I'm at the stage where I just look fat opposed to actually pregnant,If I have to walk into another department at work I'm dead self conscious that people are thinking "she's put some weight on".

I'll have to invest in one of those T shirts printed with I'm not fat I'm pregnant ! Nottslass x

Nottslass - am so envious of your bargains the pushchair sounds like a bargain, which one was it?

Am gonna guess Quest at that price.

BTW how did you get the VIP slot? FE - I'd say we do it at the start on the first post then its always easy to find for those who want it. Well just picked up a cute little rattle from work that was half price, was £6.

Its from birth and nice and colourful, in the shape of a butterfly with crinkly wings hehe.

I'm not planning on buying many toys but this is nice and simple and I know will entertain LO.

You've guessed it,its the Quest (red and black) It looks like a nice light weight buggy & will be ideal for holidays etc when the bean is a bit older. I tend to do quite a bit of next directory shopping on line & I've been lucky enough to get a random invite to a VIP slot for the last couple of years !!! As for toys,I've got a few bits left over from DS & hopefully they are still packed away safely in the loft. Am I correct in remembering that you work at mothercare ?

I got a white work shirt there on Saturday - another bargain,£6-50 from £22 !!

We had the quest too when DD was a nipper.

It was great. Very lightweight and easy to maneouvre.

We didn't need one suitable from birth as in the early days she was in a double buggy with her brother (13months between them) and it was perfect from she was about 6 months onwards. This time round we've gone for the Bugaboo Bee as I wanted something very lightweight, suitable from birth and with the option of being parent facing when they were little.

I always said I wouldn't go for a Bugaboo as they are just too trendy, but when it came down to it, it was the only pushchair which ticked all my boxes! What will you use to transport bean for the first couple of months, Nottlass as I don't think the Quest lies flat?

Or are you a baby wearer in the early days?

I think that I'm going to go for the M&P pramette - I had the M&P pliko travel system for DS & loved it - I've still got the car seat and base ( which fit on the above, they are in A1 condition).Apparently I can have my old car seat recovered to match the new pram for £25 ! I love the look of the Bugaboo too,the only thing is, I have always had a preference for two handle "umbrella fold" pushchairs and for some (very strange) reason I just can't get on with the one handle type.weirdo. DS1 was 9.2lb and DS2 was 9lb !

So I have to skip the sling stage !!!

Yeay the Quest is a fab lil pushchair and will be really handy for you when LO is bigger, nice colours too.

We're considering the Maclaren Techno XLR as its so nice and compact and I like the new carry cot feature, but really need to see how second bean is doing on friday, could require a re think.

And your correct I do work for Mothercare (so handy right now), so I'll notify you of any bargains I spot. Mum bought me a cute cardigan for baby while we were in the Next clearance store on Sat, was £12 down to £3.

Mum says she might get me another as there so good value. Just wondering has anyone been told they dont have to take Folic Acid after there 12 weeks?

Read this in a magazine the otherday but havent seen it before.

Quote: : DS1 was 9.2lb and DS2 was 9lb !

So I have to skip the sling stage Nearly a stone of pregnancy weight off straight after you gave birth then!

Clever boys know how to make their mum feel good about herself! Mine were 8lb and 7lb 10oz respectively but I've been told the one I am currently carrying is likely to be a bruiser!

Why they thought this would be a reassuring thing to tell me at 20 weeks, whilst tacking on the comment "Of course they do most of their growing in the last three months" I am really not sure!!!
