I am switching from REDHAT to anything. - FedoraForum.org

I purchased a copy of Redhat Enterprise WS 3 because Redhat was going to discontinue its regular Redhat 9.0 and cater to the big companies.

I loaded this WS software and found out that a lot of Linux software was omitted from it.

They have videoconf but they left out the video modules for the camera I use also a lot of others.

Next I tried to ftp my files back into the system from another Linux only to find out that I could not set up the WS software as a ftp server.

Next I tried to set up the computer as a Gateway for my home system only to find out ever time i run MASQ it seems to disappear from the lsmod listing.

Also found out that the 128MB Memory I am using is not enough from this software.

Every time it boots I get a warning.

I am sorry I did like REDHAT at one time but no more.

It looks like they do not care about the individual users any more and only care for the corp companies.

I think I will switch back to Slackware where I first started some years ago. Don Bennett Woodbridge, Va.

Complaining about usability so you're switching to slackware? hrm... =)

Somehow I always endup using RedHat again.

If you aren't using support from your purchased version of RH 9, you might want to look into Fedora, Fedora.redhat.com, it's the opensource-community?

Spin-off of the RH enterprise products.

The stuff that gets stripped out of the RH release is due to licensing and royalty$ (patent)issues.

With Fedora it is still stripped out, but you can get most of those RPMs back at rpm.livna.org. DrZharko Cedar Rapids, IA

Give $$$ to RH when Fedora is still free, and has all the same quality and familiarity as RH9 had? it is not so good to make such decisions while in a negative emotional state, which is what a lot of satisifed RH users seem to be doing. So Red Hat has to face the realities of needing to make some money? So what ditch their distribution?

Not even consider or try Fedora? Emotions are over-ruling what were otherwise sound technical-thinking people.

For now it seems RH is focused on the server end and serving corp customers.

Meanwhile, all indications are Fedora will continue to thrive, after all it is just a successor to the best RH distro. -- Regards, RodgerH --- Registered Linux User #285004 ---
