A TOUGH CHOICE - bsnl dataone vs cable internet Hi everyone, It has almost been a month that i have been using dataone broadband internet connection plan 500 on my destop computer.

I took initially plan 500 (which has datacap of 1 GB/month) to test bsnl services.

I m pretty satisfied with it. Plan 500 has speed of 256 kbps and datacap of 1 gb and costs rs 500 monthly. Now I am in a dilemma.

From last two years I was having cable internet which is unlimited monthly package and costs rs 750 and has speed of 64 kbps (claimed where actual is 40 kbps). Now I am in a fix as I really love now the speed of bsnl dataone with no downtime in last one month I have been using it.

Downloading any software or browsing multiple pages simultaneously is fast, easy and hassle free. The main questions is: Q.

SHOULD I surrender cable internet and go for a higher plan of dataone (as my requirements are more than present 1 GB cap per month) However, surrendering cable internet would mean that I am relying soloely on bsnl (a govt service which i fear).

Also getting cable internet reinstalled at a later stage would be tough should there be a need. What is ur advice / opinion / suggestion ???? Have u experienced any down time with dataone bsnl in ur city (i am from kolkata) if yes how long and how frequent??? What alternative plan u keep should ur primary ISP is unavaiable at any time (I am looking for either home 1000 or Business 1200 plan....plz see the following link http://www.bsnl.co.in/service/dataone_tariff.htm ) Plz feel free to express ur opinion as I have to decide on this really fast as bcz due date for cable internet advance monthly bill is two days away. thanks and regards, sunando sunandoghosh at rediffmail dot com

Sunando ji, it all depends on on ur basic requirements, if u have lots to download everyday go for bsnl with higher tariff, as it will compensate with ur power consumption by quick download time, or the cable is ok to continue, and u don't have to worry about bsnl being govt, it is no more a govt organisation its a public sector and it is still a better service provider atleast in semi-urban and rural areas,

Hi shri75, thanks for ur reply, "u don't have to worry about bsnl being govt, it is no more a govt organisation its a public sector" Is there any significant difference between public sector and being government...?? (I think u r referring to NOT public sector but being public LIMITED company...correct me if i am wrong) "if u have lots to download everyday go for bsnl with higher tariff, as it will compensate with ur power consumption by quick download time" at this point, let me ask one more thing...i always switch of just the monitor of my desktop rather than shutting computer for convenience to avoid starting / shutting...does it mean i am wasting power resulting in escalating electricity bill...i mean do u think it makes material difference?? "go for bsnl with higher tariff" has anyone ever changed their plan...??? what do we do to change the plan ...??? do we need to fill a form ??? ALSO would appreciate if anyone would advice on queries raised in my first post...or would like to express his valuable opinion... regards

ALSO one more thing...sometimes i do visit XXX sites and pornography for clips / stories / movies etc...do u think accessing such sites with bsnl dataone would be risking...does the Government monitor (like communist chinese government does) bcz with my cable internet there is no issue as regards this...

Ya know,it really make diff...it had come in newsp.

Also,when v were facin elec.

Crisis...that puttin device on standby does not really help reduce the pwr.

Intake. byee

How much difference it makes to the electricity bill per month approximately ???

(any rough idea )

Go in for BSNL. f00 to these so called BS cable internet providers.

My internet has been down the entire day!

I am using a sucky MTNL dialup right now!

(I think u r referring to NOT public sector but being public LIMITED company...correct me if i am wrong) yeah, u r right i mean the same its a public limited, if the govt doest want to kill it purposely, it will strive best to stay in the market. (any rough idea ) calculate the power factor of ur system, and it depends how much time do u use it, and regarding data one at non peak hours it is touching speed of 400kbps,but when busy hours it falling to even5-10kbps, my colleague who is using it has said that.
