Need Advice On Free Internet Email Provider - WorldStart Message Boards
I have been using Yahoo Mail for over 10 years and I LOVE it.
The past three days I have been unable to log on to my account and keep getting this crazy Error Message 999.
I am really annoyed and they have been no help at all.
I hate the though of having to create a new Internet Mailbox because I really have been happy with Yahoo, but I see the need for a back-up.
I tried Gmail last night and it seemed okay and then I sent an email to a friend and she told me that they (Gmail) read all of your emails and it is NOT secure.
I was frazzled by that.
Is that true??? If so, I will DELETE that account right away pronto!
Can anyone suggest a nice Internet Based Email that is free that is as nice to use as Yahoo?
I'm hoping this Error 999 will go away, but I have to be ready just in case.
I'm bumming out and am hating this.
The problem is not on my end--it has happened on all three of my computers.
And their tech support is not helping me.
Thanks for any suggestions!

Personally I use Hotmail and Yahoo as throwaway email accounts and only use them for the internet.
Gmail is just as secure as either, so tell your friend she's way off on that.
Don't expect an answer from Yahoo support it doesn't exist.
But their problems are usually temporary.
Use the Gmail address I like it better anyway.

To think that gmail would have the time and enough staff and the inclination to read EVERY email makes me laugh.
The amount of money they'd have to pay said employees would be off the charts.
That is just ridiculous.
I'd love to know why your friend thinks that, where s/he read that one.
I'd bet it's illegal anyway.
I have a gmail account and the program works just fine.

Those were my thoughts, and chuckles exactly Elva.
If gmail has enough folks to sit and read your mail why wouldn't yahoo and hotmail have the same?
And why would they want to...sit and read thousands of copies of the same jokes, uTube video links, etc., flying all over the world.
It is a funny thought.

Sandy ... regarding Gmail and Google, if you do a web search on " is Google spying on you " you will find a ton of blog sites that all confirm that yes, Google does look at your queries and then gears their advertising to you based a lot on what you search for, subject matter wise....
Do a lot of searching on the car/automobile subject, and you can bet the advertising you get directed your way will have a lot of automotive stuff in it.
They, as do the other search engine companies, make their money from advertisers so there is quite a business interest in what Google or the others see you do on the Internet...
In the interest of you not losing a friend ...
... in all likelihood, that confusion might have been what he/she was thinking about when they thought that Google (Google Mail) "reads" your emails....
I have seen a lot of other folks get that same confused thought But, as the other folks have pointed out, if your friend just stopped and gave it a moments consideration and figuring...
And realized how popular Gmail is worldwide and how many businesses and personal accounts there are using Gmail....
Well, they would have to know that there would definitely be no more unemployed people in this world as every spare person not currently employed would have to be hired to "read" all the Gmail messages going around the world....Don't think even Pres.
Obama could print enough money to pay them for their "reading time"...
So, have a cup of jo and a laugh with your friend....
And enjoy using Yahoo Mail and Gmail...
And use AdBlock to help keep the advertising down,....

HAHA...thanks SO much...I understand.
I was able to get into Yahoo Mail earlier and now I have the dreaded Error 999 yet AGAIN.
They must be not wanting to expand their server I guess...it's weird.
The good thing is I can get the e-mail downloaded into Gmail...that's a relief!
