PRINTER : need everyones participation - Scot's Newsletter Forums
The idea is this:
I started this thread to be able to list the printers you are all using on any linux distro .
Simply copy 'n paste the below in your replies and add the necessary information:
Quote: Brand and Model:
inktjet, laser, MFP/all-in-one:
Driver used:
Distro used:
I'll try to keep an eye on the thread at regular intervals and fetch the info from the posts, then put them in the placeholder below to keep the info in just that post.
That way anybody will be able to just look at that post to see which printer one could use with that particular distro, or simply which printer is usable with which distro.
Thanks for participating.
How to read this: Below you see the different distros;
Underneath each distro the working printers are listed and behind that you'll see the driver used.
If it's a laser printer or 'all in one'/MFP it will be marked red as such.
For ex.
Quote: MyLinux Vol.1

(from the Brother FAQ)
For RPM package users:
If you cannot print, install lib32stdc++6 or ia32-libs.
For DPKG package users:
Install the driver using the command option "--force-architecture".
If you cannot print, install lib32stdc++6 or ia32-libs.
(commands: used Brother HL5250DN drivers as example below:)

dpkg -i --force-architecture cupswrapperHL5250DN-2.0.1-2.i386.deb
Also, try copying the file which name starts with "brlpdwrapper" in the
" /usr/lib/cups/filter" to the "/usr/lib64/cups/filter".

HP Laserjet 1220
Print, copy, scan
Driver: Included in distro
OpenSuSE 10.0
As a caveat, I have to say that I have not installed the hplip that would enable the scanning.
I did use the predecessor package several versions ago, and scanning did work, but I don't scan very often and I have not pursued it for my last few installs.

Tool box works fine on both of them, altho ink level cannot be determined on 842 in either Windows or Linux because of shortcoming in 842 cartridges, I assume.
