airport express cannot get valid IP address when extending network - The macosxhints Forums

Hi i am trying to extend a network with an airport express but the airport express cannot get a valid IP address and flashes amber. my setup is as follows: netgear router/modem which handles PPPoE connected via ethernet to time capsule which handles the wireless network. time capsule is working fine and has a valid IP address but airport express doesn't. i have checked 'allow this network to be extended' on the TC, and connection sharing is in bridge mode. i wonder if someone could help me troubleshoot this thanks nick

I usually use Airport Utility to set up the express using "Extend a Wireless Network"option.

Yes, this is what i am trying to do

Are you using the latest airport utility ? it will do a scan and tell you what the problem is.

When I get stuck I usually reset the Express and start over using Airport Utility.

It will walk you through it.

The airport express reports that it doesn't have a valid IP address.

I have reset both the TC and the airport express a number of times and still have the issue.
