hot syncing centro with two computers - Windows HotSync - Palm Support Community
My palm centro was syncing with Outlook fine with both my home and work computers.
When it stopped syncing at home, I used the disc that came with it and used the repair function and all was fixed.
At work, it appears that everything is fine when it syncs but no data transfers.
When I tried using the disc at work to use the same repair function, the menu does not appear.
The only thing I can get it to do is reinstall the program which doesn't fix it.
On top of that, the palm software seems to be interfering with the functioning of Outlook but only on the work computer.
Can you help?

Please respond back with these questions answered so we can further assist you.
OS of your PC?
Vista, XP or Mac?
Using Outlook or Palm Desktop?
Version of Palm Desktop?
Go to help-about for the version numbers.
You may need to do a "clean" uninstall of Palm desktop and re-install.
Sometimes a re-install on top of the existing Palm desktop will not work.

How do I do a "clean" uninstall?
In a previous attempt to solve the problem, I deleted the program and reinstalled it which didn't help.
Are there other places I need to remove files?
My operating system is XP.
I am using Outlook.
Do I still need to know what version of Palm Desktop I have?

Depending on the version of Palm desktop, there are files in different locations in Palm desktop 6.2 as opposed to Palm desktop 4.x.x versions.
Look in all locations listed in the uninstall instructions.
Here are the clean uninstall instructions for XP.
You should first make a copy of your data to have just in case something
happens.
You can find your data files by going to C:\Program Files\Palm or
Palm One.
Highlight your Palm Desktop username and right click and copy.
Then go to your PC desktop, right click on a blank spot and select paste.
For Palm desktop 6.2, look in the following location for the folders and files, my documents, PalmOS desktop.
You will find the username folder in this location.
Now you want to uninstall Palm Desktop and remove everything that has to do
with Palm Desktop from your computer.
Like the above folder, delete the Palm folder.
Once this is done, you will need to delete some registry keys
from your PC Operating System registry.
Word of warning, going here and deleting the wrong thing can cause your PC
to not start up, crashing and deletion of programs and data.
If you feel
you are unsure of yourself, see if you have a friend that can help you or a
PC technician that you can pay to help you.
This will show them everything
they need to delete.
To retain your current Registry settings, we need to do a backup of the Registry.
On the PC, go to start and run type "regedit" without Quote: s
Highlight MY COMPUTER, go to File -->
Export. Should pop up with a Save As
box.
Current location is fine should be in My Documents or you can change to a location you will remember.
In the file name box, type "Regbackup[todaysdate]" i.e.
Regbackup07072008.
Next, the hard part.
The easiest way to make sure your working with the correct key, highlight the key i.e.
Palm quick install, and press delete on your keyboard.
It will ask you, are
you sure.
Say yes. Do the same thing for all keys below.
If you make a mistake, stop what you are doing.
And call a PC technician.
BUT do not turn off your computer.
The reg keys are as follows (Note: some of theses reg keys will not be here
but if they are delete them)
* HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S.
Robotics\Palm Quick Install
* HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S.
Robotics\PalmOne File Transfer
* HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S.
Robotics\Pilot Desktop
* HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Palm
* HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Palm, Inc.
* HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PalmDesktopAutorun
* HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\palmOne
* HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PalmSource
* HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\PalmSource or anything else that says palm
Next reboot your computer
Then reinstall your Palm desktop from the CD and do a hotsync.

I followed all your directions with the assistance of a technical person.
He erased all of the files and then reinstalled the program.
The same results happened.
Installing the software causes Outlook to freeze.
The computer says that a sync is taking place and no data is exchanged.
As the program is being installed and updated from the internet a message appears that says that some of the applications are not compatible and they are placed in a file in My Documents.
Please let me know what the next step is.

When you say outlook freezes, do you mean it locks up and you have to use task manager to kill the program?
What is the version of Outlook you are using?
Do you have admin rights to install software on your PC at work?
The incompatible apps.
Are quarantined because they may not work on the Centro.
In hotsync manager, are the conduits set to sync with Outlook?
Do they say Outlook beside contacts/address, calendar/datebook,etc?
If it doesn't, on the PC you can go to start-programs-palm-PIM conduit sync and change the sync to Outlook.

Yes it locks up and I need to use task manager to end the program.
I am using Microsoft Office 2003.
I have admit rights to install the software.
I set it to sync with Outlook with regard to contacts, calendar and tasks, nothing else.
But would failure to sync the other things cause the program to lock up?
Just to reiterate - I was having problems with both my work and home computers.
I was able to fix the computer at home by using the disk.
The "repair" option came up and I followed the instructions.
Everything is fine with that computer.
The "repair" option did not come up when I used the same disk at work so we reloaded it and I am still having the same problem.
Is there a setting on one installation (my home, for example) that would prevent the software from working on another computer?
It worked before and now it seems to be totally incompatible.
What could have happened to cause this dysfunction?
Was there an automatic update in the past few weeks that could have caused this incompatibility?
Do I need to speak with you directly to solve this problem?

During a sync to Outlook, it only syncs the basic PIM data, contacts, calendar, tasks and notes.
All other categories sync to Palm desktop and this should not cause Outlook to lock up.
There is really no special setting that would be different than the home system.
There may have been an update applied to the office PC that is not on the home PC.
I really don't have a specific answer to your situation.
You could try a detect and repair process in Outlook.
You will need the install CD's for Office for the detect and repair.
If you want to speak with a Palm tech you can call the smartphone supprt line at 1-877-426-3777.
