They still make this stuff?

When I was a kid I remember a TV show hosted by Dale Robertson, I think it was Tales of Wells Fargo, sponsered by Twenty Mule Team Borax.

Being from the northeast, it must have been some job to drive a twenty mule team .

I don't know about "Tales of Wells Fargo", but "Death Valley Days" was sponsored by them.

Yeah thats it! Death Valley Days...

Ronald Reagan was one of the hosts along with The Old Prospector.

Wal-Mart sells 20 MT Borax.

Both my wife and I think it's a good laundry additive.

Just a little Borax with the regular detergent.

Real good for those smelly loads.

Yep.They still make it.

It's available in most grocery stores, right next to the laundry soaps.

I just remembered something about Death Valley Days.

I taught school 20 years ago with the guy who was the stuntman on Death Valley Days.

Told me all kind of storys about Ronald Reagan.

Said Reagan was a really nice person, never treated anyone anyway but straight up.

He was the star, but took time to be nice to everyone no matter how low on the totem pole.

I think that says a lot about a man.

You can still get it here at all of the grocery and department stores. I remember as a kid we use to go to an old guys house in the mid to late 60's that had a model of the 20 mule team with two or three borax wagons hitched to it.

I remember him telling that he had won it in a contest at the local country store in the late 50's. Have always wanted one like it.

But have never been able to find one that was for sale.

I can find the model kits for around $75.00.

But never anything close to what the old guy had.

The mules were apox.

2" tall and the whole thing was mounted to a piece of lumber that spanned the full length of his fire place mantel.

Reminds me of Home.

Lived not far from Boron.

GOOD FOR WORKING WITH HIDES TOO.

I use it myself, that reminds me I need to buy more today.

Thanks for the reminder.

Borax is also a 100% effective roach poison.

Scatter it thinly along walls.

They get in on their legs and then lick it off later.

Kills them dead as a stone.

I placed some in my attached garage 20 years ago and freshen it annually after spring cleaning.

Haven't had one single roach in all that time.

Not one.

Borax is also a great flux for forge welding in a coal burning forge.

It takes a lot more talent to weld with borax as flux in a propane forge.

Makes a great curing agent for salmon eggs for use as bait. barto

Funny that subject came up.

I just bought two boxes and have been using it as a PH +for my pool.

It works and hell af a lot cheaper than the pool supply stuff.

Also pool water "seems softer" with it..made in the USA.

..nambu

Quote: : fleagal GOOD FOR WORKING WITH HIDES TOO. yep I grew up rubbing it into hides.

Got some in the garage now for the next time I want a hide to hang on the wall.

Quote: : Makes a great curing agent for salmon eggs for use as bait. barto We throw the egg sacks from trout into a bag of it.

Toughens the sacks.

Just break off a chunk to fish with.

Makes good cheap fertilizer I buy it by the 50# bag

My wife has a recipe to use it for really cheap dishwasher detergent.

Uses it all the time.

I went through a bunch of it a couple summers ago. Seems one of our client had a house infested with fleas, and a few critters hitched a ride home with me. It took a couple weeks to get the fleas out of the cats and the 1st and 2nd floors, but the fleas in the basement made a stand.

I scattered the stuff all over, and vacummned it up every few days.

Seems them fleas don't like jumping up and down in Borax.

It kills aphids off tomatoes and roses also
