Actually, the opposite and probably a fruitless question because there are so few female fb.netters, but here goes anyway:
yesterday my lovely hairdresser asked if i wanted to have my hair straightened and i thought, why not, so he used this flat iron hair straightner thingie (very different from the round metalic ones i'd previously seen) and now my hair is all, like, straight and light and i may never wash it again lest the curl return.
any of you ladies had this done?
It feels eerily addictive.
Like it's barely been 24 hours and i'm thinking of buying my own iron.
Also a gf of mine in nyc got one of those ridiculously expensive japanese chemical jobies that straighten your hair permanently.
Anybody know anything about those?
I'm trying really hard not to call her and grill her with questions.
This has such a gateway-drug feeling to it.

Straightening hair is really quite common.
the best ones are GHDs...
my sister had one of thoses chemical things on her travels...
Not a permanent one though.

Be careful if you buy a pair of those hair straighteners, they hurt if you get burned and get used to the smell of burnig hair.
What's wrong with curls anyway?
My niece has the most illustrious curls ever, I think their beautiful!

I don't ever do that to my hair (hate to tell you- don't have to it's as straight as straight can be) but so many girls here do.
Steve's right about the GHD (Good Hair Day ceramic straightners) so many people swear by them.
My friend S has very thick very curly hair and she won't use anything else.
She trod on hers once and broke them and demanded I meet her to help find somewhere that sold a new pair.
Almost refused to leave the house.

Actually, it's getting long again.
I used to have really long hair, it'd just hang totally lank, link a pair of er..hairy curtains.

I have straightners, but use them rarely.
Its takes about 2 hours to do all my hair, because its so stupidly thick.
Too much hassle.
GHDs are ok, but Mark Hill one are pretty bloody amazing....and they dont blow up after a year, unlike GHDs.

I use a curling iron to straighten my hair.
Just use it to straighten
one small section at a time.
Of course, Kathryn, your hair is probably
a lot more curly than mine.
After you straighten it you can put a
little regular hand lotion on your hands and smooth it on your hair to
help it be softer and less frizzy.

I have had this as well, people always want to attack my hair with those things, especially when it was longer.
I could never see a bloody difference so laughed (possibly a bit meanly) when one friend said my hair was now "like glass" -haha.
Just to be really irritating though, I don't blow dry or even brush my hair because I don't have to.
It's great.
