Forum.shavlik.com :: View topic - IE7 Blocker patch not setting correct value
If you look at Microsoft's Admin template along with the IE7 blocker patch provided by them, It creates a DWORD value of 1 in the HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Setup\7.0 "DoNotAllowIE70" key.
HOWEVER, the patch provided by Shavlik creates a STRING value of 1.
I have run Shavlik's IE blocker tool, and then went out to Microsoft's site and run automatic updates, and lo and behold, IE7 was an option for download and install.
Then I ran Microsoft's blocker, and it changed it to a DWORD key, set it to 1, and after going out to Auto update site, IE7 was NOT in the list.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE change the IE7 blocker tool/ and detection methods so that it correctly sets it to a DWORD value, and detects string values as needing to be changed.[/b]
I have resorted to using the Admin template and pushed out a GPO to our machines, but someone may not be so lucky.

We are rebuilding our version of the blocker tool to write this reg key correctly.
