the cohwer era vs the tomlin era - NFL - Comcast.net Community

I dont feel that i will be alone on this thought..even though all steeler fans including myself, are stedfast with who is apart of the black and gold , i just feel that the steelers would have won more superbowls if cohwer had more drive..he always seemed soft in the playoffs..it was the one thing that bothered me about him..he was a great coach, and the steelers wen to alot of playoffs for many years..but he lacked the drive once he got there..i look at tomlin, and i know, this superbowl hasn't even started yet, but to be here, in only his second year, says a lot about his coaching style..and it differs a lot from the cohwer style..tomlin has drive and passion..and a conection with the team, that ways on how the steelers play..cohwer was more like, well if we lose, then next year...and tomlin seems more like, we can win!!

Push it!! lets do it!!...it's the excitment, the passion, the never say die attitude he has brought to the locker room..or am i alone on this...has anyone else seen this about tomlin's style vs cohwer's style..

I don't know that I'd say Cowher had less drive.

I'd say that Cowher's teams became more conservative in the playoffs as though playing not to lose instead of playing to win.

We shall soon see how Tomlin chooses to define his Super Bowl attitude.

Exactly. He finally let it loose in 2005 and it ended up with the Steelers going to the SB and winning it all.

It was one of my biggest frustrations with Cowher, even though I loved him as a coach.

Guess he got a lot of it from Marty.

Don't get me wrong, there is definitely a place for being conservative in football, but you also have to know when to let loose.

If Tomlin wins this SB he will have taken a huge step forward in my eyes...

Not that I have anything to complain about...

Just reserving judgement on the guy until we see more.

Pittsburgh Steeler head coaches have big shoes to fill...

And thus far he is filling them. Quote: : I don't know that I'd say Cowher had less drive.

I agree with you masema..

If tomlin wins this one, he will have put himself into great company, if you ask me..

But i have to give credit to cohwer for the team that bill left tomlin..it isnt like knoll's intro into the team, where he built that team to be a winner..cohwer gave tomlin the best christmas gift any coach could get...the peices were already there..they just needed gumption to continue what cohwer started..

I really liked cohwer, just felt that he always had a superbowl calabor team, just always fell short in the playoffs..

I look back, and wished that o'donnel or bubby would have had the chance to hold that trophy.

Coulda, woulda, shoulda great thing about yesterday, no going back.

Cowher was a very good coach, Tomlin may never go to the playoffs again.

The point is we never know, it's sports.

Steeler organization is still the best in all of professional sports, that much we know.

Lets get # 6 and enjoy that, live in the moment.

Now it is the coach who lacks the drive to win a Super Bowl.

I guess the players who lost the games which prevented them from winning more Super Bowls had nothing to do with it.

The one thing I always observed regarding Cowher was that he appeared to have as much passion as any coach I have seen.

I take nothing away from Tomlin because he appears to be an excellent coach.

The fact he has led his team to the Super Bowl in his second year is really not that great since the coach of the Cardinals has done the same thing.

Cowher was a great coach over a long period of time.

Before blaming him for the lack of Super Bowl wins and praising Tomlin for getting the Steelers to the Super Bowl this season.

Let's give Tomlin several more years of head coaching to see if he is in the same class as Cowher.

There have been several coaches who have won Super Bowls or their team has appeared in a Super Bowl in the last ten years who are no longer coaching in the NFL because they were fired from their jobs.

Maybe Tomlin will be a success like Cowher over the long run or he will a short term wonder like the Super Bowl coaches who are no longer employed in the NFL.

Only time will tell.

Why isn't it great that Tomlin led the team to the Super Bowl in his second season?

Just because Whisenhunt has done it as well?

I prefer to think that what both coaches have done is great I guess that makes me a glass half-full type of person.

Draft picks will be a great way to compare the 2.

Cowher drafted well and I believe Tomlin has a great eye for talent as well.

I don't believe that Tomlin will be another Barry Switzer   Elway: All he wanted was to be a Superbowl champion, not the greatest QB ever.

Bill Cowher was a great coach, especially in the regular season.

It always seemed to me he was way too conservative in the playoffs.

Instead of going for the kill, it seemed the team always let up.

I get in the pros you don't run up the score, (unless your name is Belichick).

But there is something to be said for finishing the game.

I can only hope Mike Tomlin finishes what he starts.

From all indications I believe he will.

And as far as the draft goes, lets give some credit to Cowher, and some credit to Kevin Colbert.

He has done a fantastic job!

He could be making a lot more money with another team, but he's a Pittsburgh guy and loves the orginazation.

As Steeler fans, we are blessed with one of the best front offices in pro sports!

GO STEELERS!!!
