The Sims? - Parenting Tweens to Teens - BabyCenter

I started with Sims 1 years ago, then 2, and got 3 for my birthday last month.

My daughter has been playing since Sims 1 also.

The only "sex" is not that easy to make the couples do, it won't allow unmarried couples the option, and it is called "woo-hoo" and nothing is shown except giggling, a funny growl, then they disappear under the covers. I have no problem at all with my DD playing and she is 11 now.

I guess she started at maybe age 7?

And with adoption being free in Sims 3 that is how she gets kids for her family anyway.

Much faster ;) Skirt!

Just saw the rest of your post about video games - DD also plays Halo with her daddy, but not online, just the two of them.

She plays Guitar Hero also.

We have an Xbox 360. Skirt!

My 7 year old sister somestimes plays..

But thats with either my mom myself of my 17 year old sister right beside her Cassie Mommy to Maliyah & Aralyn [Jan 2007] Kamryn [Feb 2008] Caleb [Jan 2009] and expecting baby #5 sometime in June 2010...

Just out of complete curiousity, what other parts of the game do you consider inappropriate?

I always thought it was pretty tame - now I wonder if there's something I overlooked regarding my daughter? However - there are LOTS of "mods" that can be downloaded to alter the game (Sims 2 anyway, nothing yet for Sims 3, it's only been out a few months so too new) that do things like take away the censoring blur, you can download graphic nude skins, I even saw a shower you could download that allows your sims to have threesomes, or worse!

But - those are not part of the game, and must be downloaded from other sites that require registering. Skirt!

My 11 and 8 year old both play The Sims 2.

They have more fun buliding houses than actually playing LOL *Nurse Chrissy* Momma to C (5.24.98), Z (8.8.00), L (6.29.04) and stepmomma to D (10.16.00) Momma-to-be to Jack Roland or Cynthia Louise!

(3.20.10)

Both of my girls love playing The Sims 2 (we also have the Pets expansion module), they are 11 and 8.

We started off with them playing while one of us is in the room and now they can play when they want (obviously within reason ).

I also thought it was pretty tame - but they spend more time creating Sims families and their pets and/or building/decorating houses more than the "day to day" playing. Katie Alexi 5/98 & Juliana 10/01

My daughter started playing Sims 2 when she was 8...

We bought Sims 3 on the day it came out.

It sucks compared to 2 because we have all the expansions and downloads from the internet. My daughter rarely "plays" - she just likes to set up families and build houses. I don't have an attitude problem.

You have a perception problem.

Hmm... I don't know, it's hard to explain.

But I used to teach and I overheard a conversation of two students in my class.

They were 11 at that time.

One of them said: "I killed the mother in my family yesterday!", and the other one was like: "Cool, I always do that too!

Once I killed the parents, and then the kids were all alone..." and bla bla bla..

Going on about killing the persons in the game, making them burn up in the fires, drowning them in the swimmingpools..

I know that maybe that was just the way boys played the game, but it really scared me!

Reading your comments about 7/8-year olds playing it, makes me more relaxed.

I guess I will allow them.

I actually didn't knew that so many young children were playing it.

I thought it was for teenagers!

But I'm gonna allow my boys I think...

I havent looked too deeply into the Sims yet but I've so far said no to my kids because I had heard about the sex scenes and the killing. Why do I feel like the only parent in my town who gives a darn what games her kids play.

I will not let my 11 yr old play any rated M games but I have given in on a few T games but none that involve killing people as a sport.

Language doesn't bother me as much so I allowed Bully. Yet, my 8 yr old neighbor has Grant Theft Auto, and there's 9 yr olds playing all these hard core rated M games.

Why am I the only one that sees a problem with this? Sharon

I love the sims. I've played it since the beginning.

I have zero problems letting my children play it.

It's not graphic at all.

The naked bodies look like barbie dolls, meaning you don't see any private parts.

The "sex" is called woohoo and it's done under the covers, so its not like you can see anything.

My kids are currently 13 and 11.

But they've been playing for a few years.

No big deal for me.

They see waaaay worse from just regular television. Keri - Loving my 3 beautiful and intelligent daughters, who were made possible through the greatness of choice. Selfish is not a bad word.
