No sound when using Internet Explorer accessing Yahoo Msnger, MySpace, You Yube
Me Too!
Please help!
I have tried everything you all have posted on here and nothing is helping mine.
My speakers are connected correctly, my device manager is configured correctly, default audio cards and devices are correct, I have already gone thru the trouble shooter and nothing helps.
I changed nothing on my computer and one day all the sounds is gone from my frequented websites like MySpace, Yahoo Messenger, and You Tube.
My Windows medial player plays everything just fine and so does iTunes.
That is how I know my speakers are fine.
It always appears that the sound is playing but I hear nothing even with the volume at max.
What else is there to do?
Some of you resolved your sound issue.
What am I missing?

I am going through the same thing right now.
I thought my daughter maybe did something on accident, but after troubleshooting and researching for days, I am at a loss.
I have Dell Dimension 8200 with windows XP.
I can hear WMP as well, but anything involved on the internet cannot be heard, like listening to Fox News or a CNN Thread.
The little sound icon that is normally on the bottom task bar is even gone.
Anyone get any results yet?

I use Vista and I have noticed that when I open internet Explorer 7 my sound isn't working on it.
If I right click my speaker volume in the tray and select "open volume mixer" I can turn up the volume on internet.
Now if I open a new tab or a new browser, the volume goes right back down to zero.
I am looking for a way to fix this but I hope this helps you with your problem for now.
If not sorry.

Hi folks,
i think i can give you the solution for this strange problem.
have a look on your speakers plugging !
I would suppose that you plugged in your speakers at the line-in plug of your soundcard !
plug it at the line-out plug and it will run again.
best regards to all and have a good sound ...

Hi KConklin,
i read already the starting posting of jlc212.
It is the same like me was...
Youtube,etc-- no sound, mp3 via mediaplayer -- sound ok.
And i thought my speaker pluggins were alright, i didn't notice that there is a little difference in the symbols of the pluggin at the backside of the computer --- one line-out, other line-in.
pluggin' it correctly -- and my problem was solved !!

Yeah, i have a similar problem.
My comp has had lots of other problems latley, all which were easy fixes, but this 1 is just so generic that i get a million results saying to turn on my speakers.
Well, in my case, it doesnt even look like itsplaying.
In fact, you know how on vista when u go to the sound mixer, if ur in firefox/wmp/IE ect., it shows a levle adjuster for it, well, it comes up for wmp, as well as windows sounds and the master, but in all 3 of me web browsers, get no level adjusters for them, and i cant hear anything, even tho the music on myspace or a vid on youtube is playing.
Help!!!!
btw, here are some extra things about my comp and my problem
A)I have vista and
B)I have a compaq presario v6000, no physical mods, just software mods, but i know their not what caused this
C)whenever it shows the windows symbol during the computer start-up, when ur supposed to hear that really loud start-up "duhn-duh, den-den!!!!" almost musical sound when it is shown, or the logged-in sound, even tho i have NOT been muting my comp befor shut down, so i could test it, and i still hear nothing at those times.

Some program has altered the default device for sound and be put back by...
Control Panel-->
Sounds and Audio Devices-->
Sounds and Audio Devices Properties-->
Got to "Audio" tab
and choose the default device for "Sound Playback" and "SoundMax Digital Audio" as other than "Modem #0".
Enjoy the sound of music now!!

I too have the same problem with winxp on a pc.
Spdif speaker check ok, wmp etc on pc audio is fine but no sound from any online content such as yahoo7, youtube stc.
I just downloaded realtec ac97 but it didn't fix.
In audio properties I have device for playback as AC97 (the only option given).
Interesting thing I note is that on playback of a news clip on yahoo7 , the sound bar shows muted which I untick and then when I move the volume curser from left to right to increase the non existent volume the mute tick reappears on the play window.
Mute is unticked on all audio settings in control panel.
Any ideas?
Remember: I can play sound from files on the PC but no sound from online content in IE 7

I am having same problems and it all started with the update from adobe flash player , I even went to a back up of a month ago , but can't figure out how to stop the upgrade adobe hits you with , plus I think it comes in with other updates all as one package as soon as it goes in you all get no sound on any flash device on the internet, adobe media plays fine, media plays fine , quick time works, they all work except flash player which is used on 90% of sights it seems , soap box won't play, you tube won't play , and worst of all msn overseas sights won't play , only get video.
Tried contacting adobe , waited 10 hrs on hold and got no where, sent a thread on every 300 support I could find , and guess what no reply, as bad as diskeeper with their promised fix to boot defrag, which does a real good job on vista ,, it wipes the whole boot clean, that was fun..
So if you hear anyway to fix this contact me direct at jenak3769@hotmail.com I am desperate.
Oh do not try any of those so called fix flash player programs , wasted almost a 100 bucks on those stupid things and all I got was a major manual repair on my registry, after un installing all three of them , that was fun too!
Good luck and thanks
Jenak

Willgame4food: I have the EXACT same problem as you.
There are some sites that you will get sound, if I am not mistaken.
However, the video ones like YouTube or videos from Yahoo news etc.
Play no sound. No solutions found anywhere.
I have gone through every 'fix' I have found.
Wavemapper registry, K-lite codecs, uninstall/reinstalling Flash, running as administrator.
I too have vista, 32-bit business.
Also, downloading a flash video and trying it through one of the players produces no sound.
I have tried asking Adobe, and they are not very helpful.
I noticed you stopped writing inhere....
Did you ever get your problem solved?
DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO FIX THIS?

Dear roughneck:
It took me three weeks to solve the problem and you are not going crazy and your speakers are not in the wrong port or jack, or sally, jim or george,, the problem is real ..
Check all programs for a vista codec package , if you see it go to or google K lite Codecs for vista ...
Download the FULL version and let it uninstall the existing package ,, when it installs , go to programs find it ,, right click expand and left click configure ,, then every box for the next 20 minutes tick it irregardless and you will end up with 3 little screens open hit apply on each one and then ok on each one ..
If you have any video games card games etc in your system, other than the ones that came with uncle billies freebie card games etc .
I hate to tell you this but I had to compromise with my crib game and my downloaded 3d grapichs 79.95 plus tax special wave good bye to it and uninstall it ...
Don't despair but un install them ,, then shsut down completely power off wait 5 seconds power on F1 pressed acces the bios , go to security and disable the quiet boot and save settings and restart ..
When it comes up check forst site or you tube or whatever uses flash you should have full sound back..
Next step google CC cleaner a hippo file download
excellent tool and run it take out all the garbage it finds on clean ,, then run registry , and it will find all of the unused and excess and hotkey *** left from installers and un installers and unused dead active x and all that *** fix all those issues , It just deletes them , no harm but a lot of gain picks you explorer speed way up do it weekly or more depending how much you use computer that is how this now bald person fixed his and at least my hair is growing back..
Did find out that adobes new flash plug does not accept all the XP patches put on game programs to make them run on vista it screws up between the 2 of them the sound exception deletes and the host server shut down and only warns you once ..
By the way my computer savvy is , I am no IT tech, my knowledge is just enough to be dangerous but i am not young and my first computer had 2 k memory back in 1976 so my knowledge is just enough to be dangerous
good luck Ian , you can get me direct at jenak3769@hotmail.com if you want

Hey purple power all these problems are for vista os not xp , it is these useless xp patches to some programs to make them vista compatible that is causing the problem and it is shutting down the host server and screwing up the codecs when the update for flash player went in .
It is a labor intensive fix that will mean installing and uninstalling several programs , drivers and codecs and codec packages..
Non of these loss of sound is affecting xp os , thanks for your input ..
But is affecting literlly thousands of vista users..
And we are getting no help or response from adobe or other tech sites like microsoft ,they put u s on ignore.

Hi I had the same problem it is in the new update for flash player , you have to change the codecs contact me direct by e-mail at jenak3769@hotmail.com .
It is not an easy or fun task but there are several ways of fixing it depending on your OS which must be vista and most important , what month and year of the OS , the big difference is in the sp1 pack and how it effects the build..
2 crucial dates are needed either build before jan 18, 2008 ,,, or build after jan18,2008.
It affects which way to start and which way to end.
By the way my name is Ian and I am almost bald but thank god my hair is growing back as I pulled my hair out for 45 days and ran up one *** of a phone bill to find the solution..
I have sent a notice of how I fixed it to trouble fixers and maybe eventually they can find an easier way, but Uncle billy at dear lovable Microsoft or the clowns at adobe are about as much help as a hole in the head , One other thing advise me if you have any downloaded games on your system other than the ones that came with the OS whichever version of vista you have .If this is xp i do not have a clue how to help you .
Ian
|
|
 |
|
 |
 |
|
 |
|
You are on the right track it is in the codecs and somehow or other the new adobe flash plugin has taken all of the patches out of soem programs..
The first place to look seeing you mentioned codecs is any games downloaded on your system other than the ones that came with the system , un install those first as they probably are a xp patched game to run on vista.
Next look in the master program list in all programs and look for vista codec package.
If your build is before jan18, 2008 it will be there.
If it is there uninstall it .
Then google K Lite codecs and find the FULL version of codecs for vista, down load that and run it ..
When it installs and gets to the finish ( don't forget to un tick all the google ***, toolbar and picasso and google earth , you do not need that install at this time or you do not need any more grief) when it finishes,, DO NOT LAUNCH very iimportant, Okay go to master or all programs and find the K Lite codecs program expand it and find the configure program left click it and for the next 20 minutes or so , tivk every box you can find on everything that pos up most of this is just *** but it will come out later plus you will see all this conversion stuff avi to this and wma to that , just tick every box..
Eventually you will end up with 3 boxes open on your scren hit apply on ok on each of the 3 boxes and they will close , of course start with the first one first...
Okay after that shut down log off I mean shut down power off ..
With power off wait 5 seconds ( most manufactures say this I wait at least a minute or go get a glass of water to get rid of the dry mouth of frustration..
then power on with the F1 depressed you must access the bios ....MAYBE in the bios go to security and in security below the hdd password set there should quiet boot disable this , you do not want a quiet boot as this is the access to the OS 's master file for the computer and also if this is a laptop master wireless button on the outside of the machine must be in the on position.
After you have changed that save the settings and exit.
And let the machine restart in normal mode..
After it all is up and running go to programs and bring up the properties for IE 7 or 8 and go to security and advanced settings and cursor down to media a scripting check to see if all boxes are ticked in the recommended settings , all the ones that say recomended , you can change these back later if you want ..
Next go on line and check any site that uses a flash player , you tube or whatever and you should have sound ,, If you do it is time to clean up the machine..
Google CC Cleaner free tool and download and run go to options and then in options un tick the box that says only delete files older than 48 hrs after that come back to the first screen and analyze the clean mode , Plus on the first screen tick all the boxes except any in the advanced section , run this cleaner and delete all the *** after that run the registry clean , you do not have save the file when it comes up just fix the issues , these are all the unused or used file extensions that are used by the system installers and un installers and all the stuff that gets loaded from websites to allow then to run this will also clean up your system and should be used one a week jsut to get rid of all the file issues which slows the system down..
If you have trouble un installing the vista codec right at the beginning go to microsoft and down load the clean install tool and download it and very carefully find the vista codec package in it and un install it..
|
|
 |
|
 |
 |
|
 |
|
Xp I think all you have to do is roll back the audio driver , use device manager find the driver , check for update if none come up, try to roll back the driver..
This is relly a major problem that hit vista os real hard ,, but it is in the codecs and adobe flashpayer update is what has screwed it up and they have put us all on ignore, same as Billy and company.
I have the fix for vista , but xp is old operating system and shoud not be affected ..
So I woud also look in internet explorer properties maybe restore that to default ,, or make sure in security the media and scripting boxes are not disabled also check add ons in explorer properites and see in the winsock is not disabled they all should say enabled.
good luck

Ok, i have the same problem with internet explorer 7.
I know my sound works just fine with everything else because itunes and safari work great.
I havent changed anything with my speakers since i bought them and originally plugged them in a year ago.
It just seems like all of a sudden the sound in ie7 just stopped working.
Like i said, i use safari now to get online if i need sound, so i know the problem originates with ie7.
does anyone know the solution to this problem yet?

Hey guys,
I am getting the same problem, I have "WINDOWS VISTA HOME PREMIUM", the Sounds from youtube and even the ASP.NET AJAX websites work fine on Mozilla firefox.
ITs only the INTERNET EXPLORER 7 that is troubling, though it gives out the "CLICK" sound (the normal sound that you get while you are navigating throught websites) but not the Embeded sounds in it...
Its really bothering me ...
I have to you Mozilla for Multimedia websites...
There must be some way of fixing IE?

Dude ME Three!
Everything is ok (device manager show no conflict, the realtek drivers intact, etc), even the audio indicators seems to move along with the music and /or vocal but absolutely no sound.
I found a temporary work around way, it is to invoke the media player or similar first to play an audio track before launching the other programmes (i.e.
Browser, on MSN).
This is really weird as it occurs for when IE or Firefox is the first programmed to be invoke prior to the audio track being played.
Not sure if Microsoft is aware of this problem yet.
My OS is vista home edition.
Can imagine everyone frustration since I was pissing around it for sometime already tearing my hair out.

If you have windows vista:
Click on Control Panel
then Hardware and Sound
then Autoplay, scroll to the botton
then click reset all defaults.
Your problem should be fixed

Chaz777
No such luck, further the Hardware and Sound icon not there, all the "set to default" buttons are greyed out.
The sound works great on boot up but terminates after IE or Firefox is the subsequent prog to be invoked.
Like I said earlier, I am still relying on the "playing audio track first" then open browser.
Need a permanant cure to this annoyannce.

Also, there is you audio-levels panel, usually openable from the lower-right, check Mute, 20db-boost, etc....

I FOUND A SOLUTION!!!
I've been having the same problem ...
I'm running IE7 on XP and I haven't had sound in ages!!!
It's a problem with the registry.
I just fixed it using this solution:
First, copy all of this text (starting with Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00) and save it to your desktop in notepad using the name "missing.reg":

YOUR SOUND SHOULD WORK INSTANTLY ...
NO REBOOT REQUIRED!!!!
NO KIDDING!!!
I do not take responsibility for finding the solution, I just stumbled across it and it is my great pleasure to tell EVERYONE because not having sound is very frustrating.

Ok,i can see this is a old post, but i would like to post my fix anyways for future reference.I have a laptop hp dv7 mulitmedia with a idt high difintion sound card,Vista OS.My problem originally started with the lame mp3 codec popup dialogue, this box would popup everytime i tried to watch media in ie8.Clicking ok on the box would let the media play but without sound.Unistalling and reinstalling k-lite codec pack with the reset option checked fixed the popup problem, but i was still without sound in IE8.To fix the sound problem i simply set a alternate sound codec as my default codec then resetting the original sound codec back as default. This fixed my sound problem.I would assume disabling and re-enabling your sound device or reinstalling your sound card drivers would also fix this problem. The problem does lie with the sound device.
To change default sound codec go-Control panel/Hardware and sound/sound/Manage audio device.
I hope this helps gl.

Had the same problem on several Vista PCs at work.
I went into Tools/Manage Add-ons/Enable or Disable Add-ons.
Selected Shockwave Flash Object and disabled it.
Closed all IE windows, then re-opened it and went to a website that requires Flash.
It complained that Flash was not enabled.
Re-enabled Flash and voila, sound started working.
