Laser Eye Surgery - trickery.net

Has anyone had this done?

If so, what was it like?

Does it hurt at all?

How long was it until you could see after the procedure?

Do you now have perfect 20-20 vision? Just wondering cos Optimax are offering about £600 off the job if you get it done before the end of April, and Ive booked a procedure for Monday (There was a cancellation )

I'd be interested in anyone's experiences with this too. Not sure i'd ever get it done, but with eyesight like mine, there's always the temptation

Have there been any long term trials ?

Scares the fuck out of me if I'm honest (I only need glasses for driving, cinema etc.) My Mrs could use it though as she's blind as a bat (although I have to keep her badly sighted or she'll leave me...

I lock her glasses away from her so she can't run away )

I need glasses/contacts for pretty much everything.

Without them, I can make out colours, but not really shapes, and have a viewing range of about my arms length in front of me.

(left eye 3.50 and right eye 4.50, for those that know what that means)

Not had it done but my dad's an optician and heard him mutter about it from time to time. You probably won't end up with 20/20 vision. And his general advice isn't to go for the cheapest you can find but to go for the most expensive possible and make sure the person doing it has done a hell of a lot of them in the past.

Bear in mind as well you don't need to be a qualified optician or anything to perform laser surgery, its open to any doctor to do after a few days training.

I am pretty blind without my glasses and my wife has suggested it but I hate the idea of giving money to private health places that are populated by surgens who are only interested in making (lotsof ) money.

Plus what happens if they fuck it up?

NO no NO NOOOO NO and also NO I don't know anyone who's had it done who *hasn't* had side effects afterwards.

I'm not going to name names (even in PM) but this includes a number of well-known media people who had it done for professional/vanity reasons - it is particularly apparent because they can no longer read auto-cue against a black background, because their night vision is fucked. DON'T DO IT

I wonder how long it will be before people are convinced that there are no long term side-effects ? I''m not suggesting i'm "for" the surgery, but i think there have been about 8 million operations, and whilst there is a risk, as with all surgery, none of those succesfully operated on have complained post-op about issues. Clearly i'm not going to risk it , as my eyesight is so shite they can't give me 20/20 anyway - so what's the point !?

And to Flossie, i know people who have had it done (one in s.africa) that are all totally satisfied. And as to the celebs, they need to learn that just because someone has a room in Harley st, it doesn't make him an expert in his field.

I have a friend and it's worked a treat.

Nothing went wrong for him, but it's best to check out all the details you can of course.

How much is it per eye anyway?

It's tempting but it'd give me the willies.

I know someone who had it done recently....have to stay out of smokey atmospheres for a couple of weeks afterwards!

Where the fook is Gra when you need him (I'll prod him along minty m8, when I see him ...him and his wife being opticians and all)

I'd be very interested in this for the future sometime.

I've got used to wearing glasses...

It'd be weird not to have to do so.

My dad had it done many years ago and had no side effects or problems.

They do say that you will develop a bit of long sightedness after a few years, and he has (has to wear reading glasses now) but I think the pro's outweigh that (never having to wear glasses/contacts again). These days, the long sightedness might not be an issue.

I know he was told that if it does happen then it was because his eyes would've gone that way anyway - not sure how much I believe that. I'd love to have it done at some point, but I've got a house to buy at the moment

Just rung Moorfields Eye hospital, which is probably the only place i'd get it done.

They use the Wavefront Lasik procedure ( i think it's a bit more likely to give you good eyesight over normal Lasik) and it's £1500 / eye.

Too many people are reporting side effects tbh.

My wife was going to have this done but has decided against it after a lot of research. I've also heard rumous that, depending on age etc, it isn't permanent. That said, a friend in The States who was 95% blind in one eye and about 50% in the other had surgery and is now 20-20. Look at how bad your eyesight is, read EVERYTHING you can on the subject (I'm sure there must be forums and support groups on the internet somewhere) and weigh up the advantages vs the possibility of the procedure fucking up

My eyesight isn't too hot without my glasses, but wouldn't let anyone near my eyes let alone with lasers. From what I know you won't get 20/20 back, and some do need to wear glasses (though obviously a weaker prescription)

Mints, we had a big conversation about this over sunday breakfast, there are no long term trials >5 years as no one had it done before then.

There has never been documented failure.

I looked it up on the web and it seems quite safe and very handy for people with poor sight, that price seems like a bargin though.

Are you sure its not being fimed for some channel 5 reality surgury show with a fat blonde bitch?

They're probably using you to train the new surgeons at that price.

Ive thought about getting it done but dont fancy the risk of fucking my eyes up even more.

You only get one set of peepers!

I'm fortunate enough to have 20/20.

Although judging by my parents' rapid loss of sight, I reckon I'll be batman by the time I'm 50.

I googled for Lasik failure, and it seems like it could be a 5% "failure" rate, failure being undefined :/ one site..

Http://doctormyeye.com/bulletinboard/DrMinarik.php I know a few people that have had it done and they all swear by it, but the one thing they were all advised was not to have it done before age 45-50...

A) because there is a risk (which is one reason why they do one eye at a time) and b) because normal eyesite deterioration has stabilised by then.

I was pretty sure that myopia levels off in your 30s ?

So they'll get killed in a mugging before you're 50 and you'll live in a mansion?

O.O My eyes are shite.

Right eye is 5.75 (but thats too weak now) and left is 6.5.

I wear contacts though, and I'd never even consider surgery on them.

Contacts are a perfect option - putting them into your eyes is bloody simple and you get used to doing it in a matter of days.

Taking them out is the same.

And when they're in, you don't notice them at all, and you can see perfectly.

Thats the way to go imo.

Unless you're as squemish about eyes as I am last time I had to take a contact lens out was my ex gf's who had cleverly been chopping chillis and somehow got some under her lens. i passed out, great help i was

Thats her being a tard, to be fair - if you've been cutting chillis you shouldn't put your hands anywhere near your eyes unless you've had them in a sinkful of water for half an hour. And you get used to it.

It's effortless, putting them in and taking them out.

Putting them in you don't even really notice.

Taking them outs a bit different mind you, but you do adjust.

Everyone i know has, anyway.

I was tempted but my eyes are not bad enough to pay out all that money when long term trials havent been produced yet.
