TR Forums • View topic - can u run the old redhat 7.2 on my new dually
Redhat 7.2 and 7.1 are just my favorite.
I have not figured out how to make the newer versions run/ look like these old ones.
Can i run this old version on my new amd dually.
I stil have an old video card NVDA GTS 64, onboard sound, pci 2.0 pci card and firewire card.
DVD burner and cdrom.
I know you can just "compile or download a new kernel" but im a newb and dont know how to do such things.
What is the deal

What's wrong with debian?
j/k
You should be ok, but I really don't have a clue why you would like to install those ancient versions?
They're not supported anymore, so no security updates too, unless you whitebox linux or similar has them, don't know about that.
If you want stable, go with Debian, it's an excellent server distro.
Easy upgradable and easy to maintain.
It's a change from Red Hat though, but you'll adapt quick, I did and I used to be a Red Hat user too.
And installing a new kernel in Debian is as easy as typing (e.g.
Kernel 2.6.4):
apt-get install kernel-image-2.6.4-k7 <font size="-2">"I think computer viruses should count as life.
I think it says something about human nature that the only form of life we have created so far is purely destructive.
We've created life in our own image."

Or you could do Fedora: http://fedora.redhat.com .
It should be pretty slick, and has a great user base to really teach you about your distro.
