Slim Fast, Weight Watchers, Hydroxicut, Jenny Craig etc? - LiveDaily Community

Slim Fast, Weight Watchers, Hydroxicut, Jenny Craig, Herbal Magic, Dr Bernstien, etc? Anyone tried any of the weight loss programs?

What was involved, how much did you lose, was there any costs, and health problems after wards?

Weight Watchers. I lost 45 pounds.

It's great. You just pay for the meetings (if you're going to meetings) or pay online and do it all online (it's cheaper in the long run, but you don't have as much of a support system as through the meetings).

I think I paid $35/month online.

You absolutely do NOT have to pay for any WW food.

They're trying to get you to learn how to control portions and learn proper eating techniques. I need to get back on.

I have 80 more to lose.

WW is the points system for each food?

I typed my answer and my computer froze on my twice,

Yes. Plus you get "flex" points for splurging each week.

I was at 29 points last time I was on, and I had 35 "flex" points, so, like, if I took my kid out for breakfast or McDonald's, or I had a birthday party to go to.

WW is really the safest and most sane way to lose weight.

I'm down 46 and counting since May of this year. E

Whatever you do, don't miss the work out, cuz THAT is the key.

I've never had a weight prob.

But a few years back my sister went on WW and for moral support I did the same thing with just maintaining my weight in mind.

It really doesn't seem like a diet so much because you get to eat regular food and the point system makes it easy to learn.

Even if you don't have weight issues, it's a great way to maintain it.

It doesn't feel so restrictive when you give yourself breaks for eating out, etc. This is a great site for keeping track of what restaurants serve and the points they represent.

Makes it easier to plan on what to order before you even get there. http://www.dwlz.com/restaurants.html My sister aimed for losing 25 lbs but went to 30 and she's kept it off for 3-4 yrs now.

My daugter has lost about 45 pounds just by counting her calories - she eats 1500 calories a day and eats 5 times a day (breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner).

She does eat the Smart Ones breakfasts, entrees and desserts and at this point she pretty much knows the calorie counts for most of the food she eats and knows all the web sites to find calorie counts for both restaurants as well as food she is cooking herself.

The one thing she did was give up soda - she drinks mainly water - she is allergic to diet soda so she doesn't even drink that.

She has a diary and writes down what she has eaten.

She has one "cheat" day a week but she doesn't eat like a crazy person.

I have to give her credit, she has been really dilligent and kept to this diet for about 4 1/2 months.

She still wants to loose another 15 to 20 pounds and I'm sure she'll do it.

I just started my diet again yesterday with the working out.

I once did Nutrisystem and lost about 45lbs in a three month period.

It was a great diet and had good food.

It was expensive tho.

Before my health went downhill, i was on Weight Watchers.

I lost about 50 pounds.

I think it's the healthiest way to go, and, it was worth it for me (at the time)

I haven't tried any of these, but my mom did Weight Watchers and lost like 40 pounds.

She didn't keep the weight off, but to be fair to WW, she went off the program.

If you stick to it, it works.

It's just all about making good choices - you can eat what you want, but you have to balance it and plan for when you're going to splurge.

Basically common sense, with a little more structure.

Ok certified personal trainer and nutritionist here (and someone who has lost almost 150 lbs through diet and exercise).... DON'T do "quick fixes" like slim fast, Hydroxicut, herbal Magic, Dr.

Bernstein. Anything that requires you to take pills, herbs, shots or whatever else is NOT healthy.

And you quite possibly can do irreversible damage to your body and organs and completely mess with your metabolism. Jenny Craig and Nutrisystem aren't healthy options either.

First, the calorie count is almost always unhealthily low (especially if you're working out), but the food is disgustingly processed and filled with tons of salt and very little actual nutritional value.

Not to mention you're screwed after because you can't have things like chips and desert every day (like in the program) and still expect to lose weight or stay at a healthy weight.

I actually know a person who messed up her metabolism and immune system, developed Bell's palsy (paralysis of the face), gained 50 lbs after, and screwed her blood pressure and liver AND developed hypoglycemia because of Nutrasystem. Out of all the options you've listed, I like Weight Watchers the best.

They offer support, teach you how to eat healthy with real food, allow "cheats", and use your activity level and current weight to determine a healthy food intake (which is what you're supposed to do).

I vote for Weight Watchers.

I have been on Weight Watchers for a while now and it's by far the healthiest way to lose weight.

They key is that you need something that you could do for the rest of your life (if you do some fad diet, as soon as you get off you put the weight back on..

Speaking from experience) Weight watchers is definitely something you could live with.

You eat real food, you eat out, you can go to parties and not have to worry about something not being on your diet.

It's wonderful! I have kept 35 pounds off for almost 2 years now (i am still in the process of losing more but keeping it off is just as great of a feat!)

Speaking of health problems afterward... i did a fad diet about 4 years ago where i ate nothing but lean protein.

No fat, no carbs.

I literally ate chicken and tuna with spinach.

That's it! i lost 50 pounds in 6 weeks.

2 weeks after that i had horrible pain in my abdomen spreading to my back (this by far is the worst pain i've ever felt!) turns out i had gall stones and lost my gall bladder.

(because of the lack of fat in my diet) if that's not a deterrent from fad diets and quick fix diets i don't know what is!!!!
