UK Pagan, The Valley -> Natural Ways To Induce Labour?
Just wondering if any of you know of some natural ways to induce labour???
Ive four weeks to go, but as of week 37, want to do as much as I can to try and bring things on.
Raspberry Leaf tea seemed to work when I was having twins, which as it was summer then, I chilled and drank by the litre.
Waters broke that night.
However, was 36 weeks then and could have gone anyway.
So, any other suggestions, short of a plunger or dinamite???
Tree (or should that be round shrubbery bush???
Lol)

Maybe a little of what got you like that in the first place?
They are NOT hot flushes;
They are POWER SURGES.

We have created a society that honours the servant and has forgotten the gift."

Just please, please don't listen to that advice about drinking oil or large amounts of anti-constipation medication.
The results of the, er, explosive effects can do serious injury to both mother and child.
Sure, it works, but it's not worth the babies or mother's health.

Believe me, I know the waiting at the end of pregnancy is the most frustrating and boring thing in the world.
It is meant to be, it is part of the preparation of getting ready to have a baby.
Twins often come early, so the Raspberry leaf tea may have helped, but probably was a coincidence.
However, I can pretty much guarantee that baby will come out in their own sweet time, and not a great deal can make them come out if they don't want to.
Which is why medical inductions often end in caesareans.
Just keep telling yourself that no-one stays pregnant for ever.
(It just feels like it at the end.) You might find you have babies that are fully baked at
37/38 weeks, or because there is only one in there, they take a bit longer.
That said, the best thing to bring on labour is reflexology.
Just make sure you get someone how knows what they are doing, doing it.
Or start making dates to the cinema or going out for dinner, since it is going to be a long time before you can do them again, and baby might decide to mess up your plans?
I know it's hard, but try and enjoy these last few weeks of pregnancy, since in 6 weeks you will be holding a baby in your arms.

Sex, sex and more sex.
There's something in the little swimmers that help move things along, so to speak.
Plenty of orgasms can help, too.
Curries do work, but apparently you have to eat one so hot that it will make you *ahem* quite explosively ill.
So similar to drinking huge amounts of castor oil.
I can't imagine that you'll want to deal with an upset stomach and labour, so I wouldn't recommend it...
Pineapple is supposed to be a good one, lots of it.
Staying active will help too.
Some nice long walks will help gravity do its thing, especially if you start getting lots of Braxton Hicks that don't turn into anything.
The pressure on the cervix probably helps prepare it for labour or something.
Nothing on this earth seemed to help me, though, I was a week overdue with both of mine and both times I was rudely awoken at 4am with my waters breaking.
Weirdest sensation ever .
Luckily we had a waterproof sheet on the bed.

As above, plus as many orgasms as possible - and swallowing.
Apparently there is summmat in semen that can trigger contractions....

I don't know the science behind semen-induced labour but for sure a woman won't be short of every male doctor at the hospital just lining up to help her through her 'time of travail'

Semen has natural prostaglandins and it is this hormone that is involved with the start of labour

Aha! Knew it had some basis in fact!
(And here was me thinking it was based on how nice the stuff tasted!)

Babies will do as they please and will come screaming when they are ready.
try just getting some good rest now hon enjoy this final leg with plenty of catnaps and some nice long baths to ease the aches
yes sex does sometimes help but it can be uncomfortable if you are feeling very large.
raspberry leaf tea wont bring on contractions but will help ease the strength of the contractions.
Try making some and putting it in a flask to take with you to hospital to sip during labour.
It helps with making the contractions nice and strong.
as this is not your first remember sometimes they can be alot quicker at making an apperarance.
oh and get your kids to rub your back for you they have smaller fingers and it can be very relaxing for you.
most of all take care of yourself eat little and often prop yourself up with pillows in bed to relieve water retension and make you more comfortable.
Drink lots of water good for you and babby.
good luck hon heres hoping for a quick and easy labour

Despite the fact that (IMO) I have the most gorgeous sexy bf in teh world (hence how I ended up like this!
), sex is out of the question, and has been for months.
Due to pelvic problems, just too damn painful and uncomfortable.
Reckon Im just more impatient this time round as I know whats to come (ahem)!
Been sipping the raspberry leaf to help with the BRaxton Hicks, but after reading this, will also make chilled flask of it to take with me when in labour (whenever teh hell THAT is going to be lol)
Cant get out much or go for walks due to pelvic issues, which is making things much worse, because even with twins I was really quite active and on the go.
AS for Tas's advice re swallowing wonder what it tastes like mixed with pineapple????
**hollers** D ve!!!!

From what I understood it was the direct act of semen on the cervix (prostaglandins or whatever) that was useful in helping to prompt labour - so doubt swallowing will help.
Just whose side are you on here Tas rofl (there's some great reasons given to 'encourage' swallowing lol)
I remember a colleague took his very pregnant wife for a hot curry, accompanied by raspberry tea and then out for a drive over some very bumpy roads in the middle of nowhere!
Didn't work.
Natural ways to induce labour
Labour induction
My honest reply - having never been pregnant, so totally unexperienced lol, - is that babies have never read the relevant websites, books or magazines and will therefore not do what they 'should do' as written.
I am sure shrub will arrive in her or her own time when good and ready.
Just be sure to take good care of you (and of course other have to take good care of you too), try keep relaxed and stress free - oh and cross your fingers and pray!
Good luck xx

Friend of mine swears by real ale.
2 of hers have arrived on due dates and 1 3 days before it, due to a couple of bottles of real ale.
Got to be the full-on microbrewery fined-with-a-dead-rat stuff, not your Tesco bottled stuff.
Castor oil used to be given as an induction - my mum was given it for me and I don't think she's ever forgiven me.
I tried all this stuff and Cub still had to be dragged out backwards, clinging on to my ribs as she went...

Um, nipple stimulation, either manually or with a breast pump, can stimulate contractions.
You have to keep at it for quite a while though....
That said, the main thing that starts labour is babe sending a message to mum that's it's ready.
They all come out in the end...
But having BTDT quite a few times, I understand how you feel!

I tried the raspberry tea, walking, and washing the kitchen floor on hands and knees...

I took raspberry leaf tablets, a bit more potent than the tea apparently, and had 2 very quick labours.
Oh, and I did shag a lot!!
But as you are pelvically (is that a word??) challenged, maybe try the tablets if you can get them.
I got them from a health food shop, but that was years ago.
Hope it goes well!

Our first made an appearance 16 days early for the date we'd been given and when I was expecting my second, the midwife said that as she,d been early there was every likelihood that this one would be too.He was (11 days) and we still weren't prepared Hopefully this one will make an early appearance for you but I do sympathise I felt very, very uncomfortable towards the end of my second pregnancy
