LibriVox :: View topic - COMPLETE: Fathers of Biology by Charles McRae - dl

Fathers of Biology by Charles McRae (?

- ?) All audio files can be found on our catalog page: http://librivox.org/fathers-of-biology-by-charles-mcrae/ Quote: : An account given of the lives of five great naturalists (Hippocrates, Aristotle, Galen, Vesalius and Harvey) will not be found devoid of interest.

The work of each one of them marked a definite advance in the science of Biology. There is often among students of anatomy and physiology a tendency to imagine that the facts with which they are now being made familiar have all been established by recent observation and experiment.

But even the slight knowledge of the history of Biology, which may be obtained from a perusal of this little book, will show that, so far from such being the case, this branch of science is of venerable antiquity.

And, further, if in the place of this misconception a desire is aroused in the reader for a fuller acquaintance with the writings of the early anatomists the chief aim of the author will have been fulfilled.

(Summary is the Preface to the book, adapted by Neeru) How to claim a part, and 'how it all works' here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5.

Below at the sections.

All the ones without names beside them are “up for grabs.” Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you’d like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please).

Read points 6. to 8.

Below for what to do before, during and after your recording. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording ! Is there a deadline? Target completion date of this project: October 10th, 2009 – but try to send your recordings as soon as you can.

Please note that if we haven't heard from you for two months, your section(s) will automatically be re-opened for other readers.

If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it’ll go back to the pool.

There’s no shame in this;

We’re all volunteers and things happen. Where do I find the text? And please take your time, absolutely no hurry!

Hi new here, if it's alright I would like to do the Preface and Hippocrates. Thanks

Hi Ryan, Welcome to LibriVox!

And welcome to this project.

I'll put your name down for the first section, thank you ever so much! But before that -- Since you're new to recording, it would be great if you could upload a test recording - nothing big, just 1 or 2 minutes - to the "Tests" folder on the uploader.

Please post the link here, and we'll check out all the tech specs and other things, and then you'll be good to go! You might want to check out this page before you start working on your sample. Also, if you give me a preference for a catalog name and a URL you want to link to, I'll gladly do that. Thank you so much!

Happy recording!
