Reef Central Online Community - RODI: Need a plumbing fitting/plumbing help
RODI: Need a plumbing fitting/plumbing help This is what I have so far:
Trying to attach my RO/DI unit under a sink.
The problem is that the brass valve adapter doesn't screw all the way into the silver faucet pipe (picture):
This makes it leak out the bottom.
Is there a fitting somewhere I can get to attach it properly?
Second, I need to run the waste line for the RO/DI and a vinyl tube from the bucket to serve as an emergency drain.
I have the following drain tubes beside the apparatus (these are from a bathroom above the and beside the buckets):
Help?

You can try to find some nylon fittings and use teflon tape it will most likely seal your leak with what you got now and is at possible run the drain tube outside to a flower bed or something similiar thats what i did....hth....

There is a special fitting made for the connection.
They even come with a valve so that you can turn off feed water to the RO filter but still get sink water.
Go to the RC Home page and look at the Support our Sponsor list.
They can send you the fitting quickly.
Look for The Filter Guys, Buckeye Field Supply, Bulk Reef Supply, Air Water and Ice or Purely H2O.
The drain lines should drain downhill not up hill so drill holes large enough for the tubing to be put in the black plastic drainpipe, preferably in a vertical section of pipe.
Make sure you use wire ties or something to hold the tubing in place.

Can you link me to the connection?
Or the special adapter ?
There are no ways to drain outside from this location, and it's not the teflon tape.
The thread does not fit and to activate the rubber gasket in the silver faucet pipe, it has to push down on it to activate the seal.
I can just drill into the drains pipes?

For attaching a faucet line, it is a compression connection , so no tape or paste is required.
I cant tell from the pic if the brass TEE is a compression fitting or not ( it needs to be to connect to the faucet fitting ).
Standard connection of a filter ( same as ice maker ) to copper is called a "vampire tap".
You clamp it on tightly, then puncture the pipe with the needle valve.
The waste line is best dumped into the washing machine output or ( as stated above dump to garden or other use ...
)
If you have to dump the waste into a drain, the acceptable fitting is called a "saddle valve"
( search "Kent Marine Drain Saddle Valve" )

Either one of the angle stop valve adapters shown on the second Bulkreef Supply urls will work fine.
The vampire or self piercing valve actually punches a hole in your copper inlet line meaning the household water supply usually must be turned off prior to their attachment.
IMO the Vampire attachments suck.
Kinda reminds me of wrapping an old tin soup can around an auto exhaust pipe with bailing wire to stop a leak.
