New Liza or old Liza? - boards.soapcentral.com
I didn't think I'd like the new Liza..but I think she is great in all her scenes!

I admire the actress and the way she has made Liza all her own.

She might have worked for me if they did not cast her as liza, and of course poker scene.
I just cannot get around those.

I do like JL but the history isn't matching up for me.

I just can not buy JL as Liza.
She is in her 30's when she should be in her late 40's-early 50's .
New Liza is betraying Ryan by defending Annie.
Original Liza was great friends with Ryan.
And New Liza's first stop in PV is an encounter with Zach, not going to Adam's to see her daughter?
Then she's walking around PV with pregnancy padding and adopting Amanda's baby.
Tptb have IMO, ruined Liza.
If they couldn't get MW to return, they should not have brought back Liza.

Jamie's acting isn't the problem.
She is just miscasted as Liza.
Wrong age to play the role.
She should be the same age group as Tad, Jesse, and Angie.
That is why the character doesn't work for me.
If she had been a different character, it wouldn't bother me, but it does when she is in a scene with Tad, Adam, or any of the other characters who were part of MW's Liza.

I am loving NuLiza.
I was actually never a big fan of the character and think finally the character is sort of interesting and that's because it's being played by JL.
I know alot of people keep saying she is too young for the part, but JL would be 40 or early 40's by now she just looks a whole hack of alot better than MW ever did.

There is old Liza and an impersonator.
JL is many things but new Liza she is not.

Polaire I agree 110%.
I think Jamie is doing a wonderful job in her scenes BUT she still isnt Liza Colby to me.
I hope in time she will be but as of right now I almost feel there is a new woman in town named Liza who has ties to some characters-- but she isnt Liza Colby...
If ya know what I mean?

I'm with Kudagirl .
She's not in the right generation to be Liza.
They should have considered bringing her on as a different, possibly even a new, character.
But as Liza it just doesn't fit.

The Old Liza (Marcy Walker) was Liza.
The new Liza just doesn't come across at all as real Liza.
That said---
I am LOVING this new character who keeps sticking it to the men on Pine Valley.
I love her scenes with Ryan and David!
She's more than a match for them.

No matter how much I try to convince myself that that redhead on the screen is Liza, I can't do it.
No slam on JL, but she is an EPIC miscast.
I was never a fan of Liza, so it's not like I'm crying in my coffee over the character being portrayed by someone different, but don't replace an apple with a banana and try to tell me it's still an apple.
Had Ms. Luner been introduced as a totally new character, I'd be less distracted by the need to keep reminding myself who she is, and I'd probably enjoy her more.
Pratt might think she's perfect in the role, but sorry Chuckles...that's not Liza.

I still preferred the old Liza to be on my screen as the role MW is known as but I don't blame her if she does not want to come back especially how TIIC treated her character toward the end when she came back the second time around.
This woman who claiming to be Liza that I am seeing on my screen is LINO (Liza In Name Only).
JL is a good actress but she is very miscast in this role and I will never accept her as Liza.
JL should haver been either Skye or a new character.

I don't have strong recollections of the old Liza ...
I wasn't a faithful viewer during her time.
I have seen clips on youtube ..
MW was gorgeous and a strong actress.
But it's not like I need to get used to a new Liza.
I just need to like this one.
And I do and I don't.
I do like the concept of a strong-willed attorney who's come back to town to show everyone what she's made of.
I don't like her having poker-table sex during hour one or walking around in her bra in Zach's office.
And ... sorry to all who love her ...
I don't find JL living up to the hype she brought with her.
I find her delivery less than vibrant and I don't get why she squints in every other scene.
I do think Liza is getting better vs.
Worst, so I suspect I'll be okay with her long term.
But I doubt she'll ever be one of my favorites.
That could change if she starts knocking it out of the ballpark with David, who is one of my favorites.
For me, her salvation is with David, I believe.
I think they look gorgeous together, but I'm not convinced JL's Liza can keep up with VI's David.
We'll see. I'm trying to be generous.

Well, here's my take.
I loved MW's Liza Colby-Chandler and was grossly disappointed, by the watered-down version of such.
That said, I love JL's Liza Colby!
One, I love red-heads and she is living up to their traits.
I love JL period, as I've followed her career since a lil boy...especially on MP...loved her!
I think some people need to get over the fact that she isn't MW.
MW wants no part of soaps, so it's time for us all to move on.
I can remember much of the same backlash, when AM took over the role of Kendall Hart, never mind the fact that the original actors haven't played the role in years.
Yeah, it's a bitter pill to swallow sometimes, but they are gone and JL is here.
I love her chem wit La Hooch, and flove her chem with Hayward, and she has chem with most of the cast, regardless of the haters.
I think she fits into the scheme of things, and believe she carve he nich in the show.

I just keep pretendig that she is some one that just rolled into PV ,and she has the same name and they all know each other from school or she has visited once before ,i just still can't beleave they picked her for that recast ,it's not liza at all ,I have watched clips on youtube of some of melrose place ,and saw her on life time ,she is a great actress ,but she isn't liza

I found her very plain and boring.
I like this Liza so much better.

In a few more months, I will accept her fully.
I love her interactions with David(VI) and Tad(MEK).

In soaps, age can be what the writers will it.
Quite a few younger actors were SORASed, and we accepted them.
JR, Bianca, Timmy, and Amanda, were SORASed.
The writers can also make a character younger if it benefits them.
This is Hollywood.
Age means nothing when writers are trying to tell certain stories.
As far as I am concerned, Jaime Luner is Liza.
I never liked the original one, so this one will do quite well.

Although I love the character of Liza, I was never a great fan of Marcy Walker, and I think Jamie Luner is a much better actress.
My issue is that the Liza we see today is not at all like Classic Liza.
She is being written like an entirely different person, just stuffed into the Liza Colby resume/family tree.
(Then there is the extreme deSORASing - although good writing could have made that less jarring.)
If they could just stop having her behave like a wanton strumpet (channeling Phoebe Tyler here!
) - parading around in her bra in front of Zach, and banging total-stranger Zach on the poker table - it would have been easier to overlook the other wholesale personality changes.
Liza was always passionate - but she was never an exhibitionist.

I still think that it doesn't matter who plays Liza.
Had Marcy Walker reclaimed the role and slept with Zach, she would have been hated just the same.
It's as if Zach should be hands off.
Every other leading men have their share of turmoil.
Heavens, Tad had his share, and let's not forget Ryan.
It doesn't matter what Liza does, she will never hear the end of it b/c she dares to sleep with Zach.
