FAT-Fat-Fat - Breast Cancer: Friend to Friend at WebMD
Oh, how I can sympathize...and what's even worse is that I wasn't on steroids (which I would bet dollars to doughnuts is your trouble!!) Are you still on the steroids?
I am convinced that steroids are nature's sponges as they absorb every ounce of fat and sugar, every calorie you take in and, apparently, they really, really love them as they refuse to let them go!!
Maybe some of the gals can give you an idea of how long it takes to shed the weight they cause...As I said, however, that isn't the cause of my utter disbelief when I look in the mirror and no longer see the skinny person I had been all my life until Well, let's out it this way:
I was always way too skinny..
Even when I consumed delicious caloric items constantly, I would never put on a pound!
When the ideal was Marilyn Monroe, I looked like Twiggy...Way ahead of my time, I fear!
Finally, in my late 20s I reached a nice weight.
The nasty fates, however, saw this and permitted meto be "just right" about five minutes before I GOT PREGNANT!
Since then it's been all "up-hill" so to speak!
Most recently, when I was dealing with my Mom's illness and eventual death and then selling her home, I fondly referred to this increase in weight as "pity pounds"...A very long pity party where I was the only one eating al the goodies apparently!
So, back to your concern...Yes!
Many of us have been there/ done that.
And steriods and lack of energy during treatment often set up a bad scenario for weight gain.
The most successful individuals are very disciplined about their eating and their exercising...And it sounds like eventually you too will realize success as you sound like one of that group!
In the meantime, please come here and vent...It might not only let you release some of the tension, but will make those of us who also are in the "chubby club" feel not so alone!
Good thoughts comening your eay for great success sooner rather than later!
blessings.

Vickey
know i have lost all my will power trying to cut back on eating.
I too got heavy. I weighed 112 when I got BC and 7 years later I weigh 140.
Ugh! I hate it and feel so fat.
I went from a size 8 to a size 12 petite becasue i am short.
I feel like I look like pig.
It wouldn't be so bad but my family and some of my friends are like "Wow" Well, It seems no one feels sorry for me anymore.
I get some exercise but i am tired a lot.
I try to walk maybe once a week but i bowl 3 nights a week.
It don't help. I try to stay on the south Beach Diet with eating.
I lost 6 lbs and now have gained that back (even though I am still On that regualr routine.) plus about 5 more.
I shouldn't weigh more than 135 for my height and since i have small bones that is still a little much.
I just wish other eople would keep there mouths shut instead of reminding me haow big I have gotten.
Good Luck with the diets.
If you can stay on stage 1 of the South Beach diet, you might could lose some weight.
I just don't have that will power anymore plus i keep telling myself that "Hey I am 62 so what am I supposed to look like" I wish you all the luck in the world and Prayer that you can accept yourself a little heavier but at least alive.
God Bless and prayers to you Pat

Vickey,
May I also add to Rachael's comments that you get your thyroid checked?
I can so understand your concerns.

Vickey welcome to the squeeezably soft club.
I know exactly how you feel also.
When I was on treatment the first half of the year I put on about 35 pounds.
My onc nurse said she likes us plump and I obliged her at about a pound a week.
Anyway it looks like you are eating pretty good.
I have started looking at the carbs that I take in and have lost some weight that way.
I am also taking physical therapy to strengthen my core muscles.
When you are on chemo it will cause muscle mass loss.
It might not even hurt to have your doctor send you for nutrition classes to see if maybe you aren't eating enough or the wrong mix of foods.
I hope you have success but if not we are right in there with 2/3 of the country.
