not sleeping, not eating, not livin - Fibromyalgia Support Group at WebMD
Hello & Welcome to Our FMily!
My name is MeMe, I'm an FM suffer of 18 years, along with 5 autoimmune diseases.
We are delighted to have you join us!
You have certainly come to the right place for support!
Its a wonderful place to be!
Join in and share at any time you like.
The most important & most difficult is ACCEPTANCE!
Then learning to live within your new found limitations.
Setting realistic goals and making changes.
Learning to say NO.
Acceptance of the "New You" is so important in keeping your self confidence, security, & inner strength!
You are still YOU, just differently abled..
I firmly believe in remembering/accepting all that you DO have to offer, dispite your current limitations!
Pacing yoursef is a MUST, even on good days.
LISTEN to your body!
Getting restorative/restful nights sleep is important.
Rest & take breaks when your tired.
Taking hot baths & soaking in epsom salt helps to alleviate the pain & stiffness!
Heating pad, electric blankets, Therma Care patches are also helpful.
Doing gentle stretches before & after getting out of bed, and after a hot bath helps to loosen tight muscles, taking deep breaths as you do them.
Massage & hot stone therapy is a great alternative for temporary relief.
Walking & warm water aerobics is a gentle way of getting in excercise into your weekly routine.
This helps to keep you mobile.
You cannot feel your weight in pounds in the water, as you don't feel your pain.
This feels really good.
Most dr's highly recommend this form of exercise for FM patients.
Doing gentle excercises & stretches are good habits to keep muscle strength and tone.
Exercise body balls are great for stretching!
Simplify your life.
Avoiding/preventing as much stress in all areas of our lives as much as possible is key, as this fuels added pain..
Following the recommendations of your dr & taking prescriptions as prescribe, responsibly.
Educate yourself & family.
Keep up with new research.
Print out info for friends/family..
Learning to ask for help, can be very beneficial, as this will relieve you of some tasks others can do.
Have a good support system.
Staying connected with other people to avoid isolation & depression.
Excercise your brain daily to help keep your mental faculties stronger & to help brain fog by doing cross words games/looking up new words in the dictionary.
Challenge your mind doing mental exercises to keep your mind sharp.
Know that FM is not life threatening!
Accept your symptoms wax & wane, but flares are transient and ultimately improve.
Try to let go of your fears and the "what ifs" and accept that life is different for you and believe & know that it can still be wonderful.

Welcome. I'm not sure what all you've tried so I'm not sure what all I can suggest.
I don't eat that well either.
I sometimes forget to eat.
Or get so busy at work that I don't have time to eat.
I take vitamins on a regular basis to help with the fibro.
And use Stopain spray.
Which is amazing.
My current vitamins are: Vitamin D St Johns Wort (mild depression) Gingko Balboa B Complex
I sometimes will take a kids flinstone vitamin just to make sure I didn't miss anything else.
Lol. And the doses are low enough I don't need to worry about over-doing any specific vitamin.
My sleeping cure?
That would be run myself until I can't keep my eyes open at all.
And I do take melatonin at night also.
I understand migraines.
I've had them for half my life.
They had me on preventive meds and imitrex.
Took me off the preventive pills after awhile and then found out it was a hormonal imbalance.
Low-estrogen bc for me now.
It really helps with those migraines.
And the Imitrex is a life-saver too some days.
Welcome.
I think MeMe will be along when she's up to help you out more than I can.

It's MeMe again...
I first wanted to give you a warm welcome & share my usual tips with our new members...
Have you ever tried Remeron for sleep??
That typically helps me to sleep.
I just restarted taking it not long ago.
I too, have chronic insomnia!
I can go for 2 days w/ NO sleep at all, nada!
But finally, we revisited the Rememron and thus far is it making a difference for me!
Too, you can find Melatonin over the counter...
You can take some many, the bottle tells you.
I use to take that years and years ago.
It helped some for a while than stopped.
You know how that goes?!
I would encourage you to continue using massage as part of your healing tools.
Warm water therapies can help, but be careful to not over do.
Physical therapy??
Accupuncture?? Maybe??
We all know there are NO magic tricks.
But we find little relief here & there, best we can...
I recommend you trying the "Stopain" Spray, that you can find at WalMart or online.
It has 8% Menthol in it.
It truly helps to Cool your body & makes you feel very tingly!
It just plain feels goods & helps you to feel better in your own skin!
Only downfall, is that you smell the menthol, like the ol' winter green smell...
But it does help some.
It's just under $8.00 in the pharmacy section where the Bengay, TigerBalm and things are...
I know the Interferon can reek havoc on your body, as well as FM!!
OY! Most "healthy" people w/o FM feel like they have FM with they are on those shots!
I used to have to give my MIL those shots in her belly!
She was not well during the course of this..
So I can only imagine what you went thru..
My goodness! You must have been s miserable, you poor thing!
Ahh, I just feel for you!!
I hope that you will soon be able to find something that will work for you!
I know we're all different in what works..
Just keep looking & asking around...
Hang in there and take one day at a time, sweet one.
Keep well and have a great night!
Hugs, MeMe

Ughh. It's past 3:30 am my time...

Hopefully our eyes will "want" to shut pretty soon and we can get some sleep!
We shall see? Have a good one sweetness!
Hugs, MeMe

Meme never sleeps she is our night shift most of the time.
I just wanted to touch on the poor eating and problems you have.
I strongly believe you are what you eat...you can get so much better with better nutrition.
Drinking large amounts of water helps too.
Receiving Interferon is a very big strain on the body and recovering from that with poor nutrition is definitely a way to be on this road You must give your body nutrients and vitamins and supplements.(Need them for the HepC too)
I receive trigger point injections and they are my main therapy, every 2 weeks and I have also taken 2 rounds of Botox *without any assistance to the problem except the neurotoxic side effects Those TP inj are a valid therapy, can you go for another opinion??
But also if not done just right (where they hurt like the dickens they are not going to release the congested zone in the muscle.
I wish you the best try and get the nutrition and fluids better, your asking the oil burner to run on mud not oil
You know water in the gas tank makes the engine sputter and choke we care for that more thenwe care for our bodies that are so resilient and deal with so much Hugs, Nancy B

Hi Pug !!! And Welcome to the FM group - FMily we call it.
MeMe mentioned the remeron - it acts in three ways - it is an anti-depressant (very slow acting, so take it at night for mood elevation about 12 hours later)....
It also has 2 great side effects - increased appetite and sleepiness - S - if you haven't tried it - maybe ask the doc for it - I'm asking mine today....
I want to enjoy food again For now I force mysef to eat something 3 times a day - something with protein and fat for me but you need carbs too.
Like a banana, or slice of cheese, or anything little that you can eat kinda-fast.
I also use supplement shakes, Atkins for me (for low carbs) mixed with milk or a little ice cream - I think of it as a treat - ---- I also distract myself while I eat (watch TV, look out the window at nature, play my favorite CD and dance a little while I eat or drink the shake.
Most small meals take less than 3 mins to eat - so one song and I'm done try it - you know you need to eat.
Migraines, I have battled on and off since 15 years old.
Mostly I used all the usual treatments at home (dark room, no noise, propped up in bed, tylenol 650 and motrin 600, and prayer), then I got lucky at age 40 and my dentist suggested a bite-guard at night because I was cracking my teeth - surprisingly, my migraines lessened to maybe 3-5 a year !!!!
I do hope you can get better control of that pain.
I cannot seem to find anything to battle the fatigue - except pacing, mild sretching, ....
Sometimes I just ignore it and pretend it's not there - like I'm doing a scene in a movie, just to get through something like grocery shopping My Doc tried me on ritalin - and after three weeks I had a breakdown - the ritalin made me realize how bad my mind is - before that I was in a fog and a little worried at work, but on the Ritalin I knew I wasn't thinking straight & losing concentration & all that wonderful brain-fog stuff.
So I had to leave work....
To scary (I am a nurse).
Vitamins help - Vit d, B-comlpex, Vit C, - but remember they are not well absorbed on an empty stomach.
I have bored you enough But again Welcome - and visit often !!

Hello and welcome MiMi in NC just wanted to let you know that being a caregiver myself...this takes a great toll on your body but you need to make sure you take care of yourself or you will find that you will not be able to take care of others I like to ask everyone who is new has your doctor checked your Vitamin D level?
If not, please talk to doctor about this....it is a simple blood test but so important for us FMers low Vitamin D can cause us a lot of pain which as you know....we do not need and I might also tell you that nothing is fixed overnight there is something out there that will help you "control" your pain living with the wrath of the dragon, aka FM....is not an easy thing to do....it takes a lot of time and effort to figure out what may or may not help you but do not give up
I take ribose for my fatigue and it helps me have you tried this....you can find it at a natural food and vitamin store....I also take a magnesium and malate combination and Omegas which also help the pain I take only prozac for depression and the doctor has just recently put me on a hormone my body does not seem to get along with a lot of the medicines due to side effects....so I have researched and learned what might help me and done a trial and error process to figure out what helps...sleeping and eating the right kinds of food are also so important to our bodies....so I encourage you to do both I also take a probiotic each morning and I also drink dan active to help my immunity system
Most of us have been there and done that being sick and tired of being sick and tired all the time....but there is hope can you get someone to help with your parent while you rest you do not say if your parent lives with you or not....but perhaps you can get someone to come in a few hours each week and help you....
I, too, was a caregiver for my aunt for over 14 years....and this is a very stressful job to tackle....and also a caregiver to my dad it is a never ending task....but you must also take care of yourself....or you will both have major problems....
I certainly hope you find something really soon to help you cope each and every day....hang in here with us and I am sure you will find something which will help again it just takes a lot of time and effort....
Post often, ask questions, make comments or suggestions....and when you can, if you have not already done so....fill out your profile so that we can get to know you better...you can do this by clicking on my persona under the orange Community at the top left hand corner of this page....this will take you to a user friendly page which you can fill out and let us know what you want us to know about you you can also read other people's profile by clicking on the blue user name in the middle of this page at the top under you are replying to:
Take care and good luck....
