The Biography Channel: All The Kings Horses And All The Kings ...
So why no news stories?
JFK termed them the "alumni".
LBJ called his group "the wise men".
Nixon and Reagan wouldn't listen.
Clinton invited them back in small groups for lengthy chats.
So what did all the former Sec.'s of State, Defense and National Security Advisors tell Dubya?
Does he listen?

Clueless Christopher, Madwoman Halfbright, Aspin, Perry, Cohen, Lake and Pants Berger would be overpaid if offered the proverbial penny for their collective thoughts.

I saw one of them interviewed (forget who) and he said that 'being in front of a president, any president, one tends to pull their punches a bit.' So who knows what they said or thought or accomplished.
Probably the usual...nothing that helps the general public much.

What you mean is they are not going to blab any secrets?
the general public really should be left in the dark about somethings
state secrets are secret for a reason

"Clueless Christopher, Madwoman Halfbright, Aspin, Perry, Cohen, Lake and Pants Berger would be overpaid if offered the proverbial penny for their collective thoughts."
Les Aspin was one of the MacNamara "Whiz Kids" in the JFK Pentagon.
Had a PhD in economics and was a long time Rep.
On the House Armed Services committee.
Was Prez Clinton's first Sec.
Of Defense. Died in the mid 1990's.
"Halfbright" is an old Joe McCarthy joke on Sen.
J. Wm. Fulbright.
But then McCarthy was an alcoholic sociopath censured by his colleagues in 1954.
Wonder if high schoolish humor hurt his cause?
Wonder if any of Prez Carter's cabinet were there?
Prez Clinton did it best.
He invited bi-partisan groups in small numbers for an evening of in-depth conversation.
Not fake Bush WH stuff in large numbers.

Of the seven I mentioned, you can only defend one, Les Aspin, and he's dead!
(I didn't realize he was dead, or I wouldn't have included him.)
>>Wonder if any of Prez Carter's cabinet were there?<<
Why would GWB consult with any of Carter's cabinet?
Carter was the worst POTUS in the history of the nation, and was booted from office 25 years ago.
>>Prez Clinton did it best.

Care to document that?
Even if he did, he obviously ignored any worthwhile advice they may have given him.

Yeah, and listening to those voices worked out so well for David Berkowitz!

"Care to document that?" should be carved on Zippy's tombstone.

What, you're desecrating a known war hero.
He was known as "Tail Gunner Joe" because of his heroism.
Of course, he was a rep and the heroic military part of his life meant nothing, unlike murthra who does everything he can now to to undermine our troop morale and who gets off the hook because he is a Viet Nam vet.
I guess it just depends on which party you belong to at any given time.
Possibly it depends on whom you're undermining.
The military hasn't been high on the list with the press since WWII.
They've been fair game for a long time.

"Tail-Gunner" was a self-assigned nick name McCarty gave himself during the war.
He never saw any combat.

>>Although his judgeship exempted him from military service, McCarthy enlisted in the Marines and was sworn in as a first lieutenant in August 1942.
He served as an intelligence officer for a bomber squadron stationed in the Solomon Islands, and also risked his life by volunteering to fly in the tail-gunner's seat on many combat missions.
Those who quibble about the number of combat missions he flew miss the point - he didn't have to fly any.<<
>>The enemies of McCarthy have seized on his good-natured remark about shooting down coconut trees from his tail-gunner's spot (an ABC television movie about McCarthy in the late 1970s was entitled Tail Gunner Joe) to belittle his military accomplishments, but the official record gives the true picture.
Not only were McCarthy's achievements during 30 months of active duty unanimously praised by his commanding officers, but Admiral Chester Nimitz, commander in chief of the Pacific Fleet, issued the following citation regarding the service of Captain McCarthy:<<
>>For meritorious and efficient performance of duty as an observer and rear gunner of a dive bomber attached to a Marine scout bombing squadron operating in the Solomon Islands area from September 1 to December 31, 1943.
He participated in a large number of combat missions, and in addition to his regular duties, acted as aerial photographer.
He obtained excellent photographs of enemy gun positions, despite intense anti-aircraft fire, thereby gaining valuable information which contributed materially to the success of subsequent strikes in the area.
Although suffering from a severe leg injury, he refused to be hospitalized and continued to carry out his duties as Intelligence Officer in a highly efficient manner.
His courageous devotion to duty was in keeping with the highest traditions of the naval service.<<
Personally, I think anyone who goes into combat in any manner deserves not to have his/her accomplishments in combat belittled.

Awesome, Crepe. I didn't know that.
Shows what happens when you listen to the liberal media.
I bet most of them will not tell you this in stories about Sen Joe.
I respect his war service...
And his patriotism.
Yeah!!

Dubya has 13 former Secretaries of State and Defense to the WH on Thursday, including Madeline Albright, James Schlesinger, Lawrence Eagleberger, James Baker, Robert MacNamara, Melvin Laird, Alexander Haig, George Schultz and Brent Scowcroft, and literally spends 10 minutes with them before walking out and turning the meeting over to Stephen Hadley?
Thats not just disrespectful, thats a little crazy.
JFK repeatedly talked by phone to the living former presidents as well as State and Defense chiefs.
LBJ routinely had long talks with former President Dwight Eisenhower.
Clinton did the same.
Nixon and Reagan did not.
A pattern emerges.

Clinton did the same?
As I recall, when a single-engine Cessna crashed against the west wall of the White House in September 1994, White House wags commented it was only CIA Director George Tenet trying to get in to see Bubba, who, for reasons never satisfactorily explained, refused to talk to his CIA chief.
Did you then see any pattern emerging there, or, do you now?
Cue the orchestra;
I feel the second act of Swan Lake coming on.
And what are the Bears going to do with a week off?
