Im awaiting my medical for the Specials and my eyesight is borderline requirements on my last check up (6/36)
If I get refused at the medical I'll definately have it done but even if I get passed the medical i'd still contemplate it if I had the money

Correct me if I am wrong, But is there not a waiting period between getting laser eye surgery and applying for the police?

You're willing to part with about three grand for a job that is voluntary?

For some it is more than a voluntary job, to some it is a dream fulfilled!

I did it, though I was all ready an SC.
Best thing I've ever done in my life.
Do it again tomorrow.
I'd recommend paying for the whole shebang, bladeless and laser polish at the end cost me just over £3,000 with Optimax

It was only about five years ago that people who'd had the laser eye surgery has to wait a whole year before they could join up!
I guess now they've realised that the treatment doesn't actually make people go blind there isn't really an issue!

I have been contemplating getting it done for years on end, but never had a drive to do it (also been at University).
Do you really think I'd be doing it just for the specials?!?
Are you crazy?
Luckily, I'm young enough for it to be still worthwhile - glasses can be such a burden.

How did you get that?
Was it necessary for your job?

I had it done some 3 months ago, sometimes i forget i had it done
simple things like getting out of bed and looking for glasses become funny moments, same with comming out of the shower,
completelly changed my life
would reccomend it to anyone to be honest, well worth it '- most annoying thing was having drops for a week

Well it looks like I may need to have it done and I know its going to be worth it

Had my consoltation today £1595 per eye, a big difference from £395

Yep, but it will be worth it...
That's what I paid and after hearing about the cheaper options I'm glad I paid more

I had it done three weeks ago, well and truly worth every penny.
Three lots of drops for the first week, wearing goggles in bed for the first week (not kidding!)
Go for it!

Just went to see a consultant, to check that it was possible to do, and go the health insurance to verify they would pay for it.
Not strictly necessary for my job (IT) as had managed for many years with specs.
Did make playing some sports, especially physical ones such as rugby a challenge though as had to play without glasses!

I had it done about 18 months ago at the London Vison Clinic, best £4000 I've ever spent.
Yeah wasn't the cheapest place but they are my eyes, best results trumps 'best value' everytime and they have by far the best outomes I've seen, plus it's nice to have you eyes burned by an expert Professor in the field rather than some guy lol
Was about -5 diopters in each eye now I have far better than 20/20 vision, near 20/12 vision
Yeah eye shields for the first week while sleeping are really annoying but well worth it.
Make sure if you are having LASIK though you have the corneal flaps cut by laser (most do now) not only are there far fewer risks associated with it but the eye retains far more strength afterwards so less susceptable to injury (flap dislodgement) following a blow to the eye.
I was really worried about this myself (given the occasional 'physical' nature of the job) and was originally thinking of having PRK done which leaves you with the strongest eye but has longer recovery, slightly more risk and greater discomfort post-op.
Spoke with my surgeon and decided on his advice to go for LASIK as the force required to dislodge the flap with the new method would likely detatch your retina which is a career ender anyhow.
Plus if it's authorised for US military aviators and combat troops should be ok for me lol
Definitely do it mate, best money you will ever spend.
One thing though, may only be my experience, is that the stuff you see on TV where they get up off the table and are like "WOWZ I CANS SEEZ AWSUM LOL!!!111" is rubbish, very blurry immediately post op for me, pretty good by the next morning then settles down over the next few weeks.
Also your night vision may be a bit crazy for a bit as the swelling causes alot of haze round bright lights but this pretty much dissappears over time.
Cheers
