air conditioner drain tube, 2002 - Automotive Forums .com Car Chat
On my 2002 Grand Cherokee I'm getting leakage from the air conditioner on the carpet.
I searched and come up with this.
http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...ir+conditioner
But the under dash looks somewhat different than what this picture shows for a 98 model air conditioner moisture drain tube.
The picture is on about the 9th message.
I don't want to drill a hole until I'm positive I'm in the right place.
I found the tube where it drains out under the hood on thru the fire wall down under the heater hoses, I stuck a small wire up in it, it did not go very far and stopped as if it hit something solid.
Can someone tell me about the 2002 AC drain?

Here's a link to the TSB from my Web site.
This is for a 96 so I don't know if it would work on an 02.
Looking up TSBs on Alldata.com it is an issue on the 02s:

I ran off that picture took it with me out to my Jeep, compare it to my 2002, it looked different.
That site you sent me to is one of those pay sites, I don't have credit cars so its no use to me.
Thanks for the site, but I'll just stick around a bit, some one who has or has had a 2002 Jeep Cherokee with the air conditioner leaking water on their floor board just might come around and tell me about it.

I thought it might be different.
If might be worthwhile for you to signup with alldata.com.
I joined a few years back that's how I got all the PDF manuals and TSBs (I converted them from HTML).
For twenty something bucks a year you get all the shop manuals, diagrams, and TSBs for your vehicle.
Well worth it.

Thanks but no thanks.
Has this place become a place for spammers?
It use to be a place where people helped each other, not a place where spammers hung out.
I haven't been here in a while, maybe things have changed, seems the only one who posted was a spammer.
But I'm going to post what little I have learned about the air conditioner drain tube, in my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo whose air conditioned was draining on my carpet and share it freely with who ever might have this problem.
And or maybe someone will come along that knows more about this and will freely share their knowledge without trying to make money off of everyone.
I took a small gauge wire, its electric fence wire, and stuck up into the drain hose that protrudes out the firewall below the heater hose.
When I 1st stuck it into the drain hose it would go only a little ways, I feared trying to force it, had not idea what is in there that I might harm.
After a bit I bent the end of the wire just a bit and tried again, this time it seemed to go around a curve or thru a T and went further up, a bit of water started trickling out, I pulled it back and forth a few times, seemed like even more water would run out.
I had not air compressor but I had one of those air pumps you plug into your cigarette lighter, I tired blowing it out with it, after which water began running out pretty freely.
After this I started my car and turned on the air conditioner, water steadily dripped out.
Thought I would post this, maybe it will help someone else who has a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo whose air conditioned is draining on their carpet.
I still would like to know if you can drill a small hole into this one like you can an earlier model.
Maybe I will find out before it stops up again.
Oh, if and when I learn more about it I will try my best to come back and post it.

Your very touchy, aren't you?
This is what you posted, <<"Here's a link to the TSB from my Web site.">>
It clearly speaks of your web site.
On my message board I call that spamming, if a member does this they get one warning, them their banned forever, and all of our member love for it to be that way.
But your welcome to call it what you wish, I don't care to argue with you about it.
I've posted mostly in the S-10 Forum, I had never seen this going on over there.
Every time I've asked for any help there, someone with knowledge jumps right in and passed information right along.

Sheesh, the guy goes out of his way to try and offer you some assistance and that's the thanks he gets...
I don't blame him for being a little "touchy"...
You seem unable to discern spam from someone trying to help.
One of the reasons no one "with knowledge" has "jumped right in and passed information right along" is because a common problem on 1993-1998 JGCs is a very uncommon problem for 1999 and up JGCs.
PS.
Leave the spam enforcement to the mods;
Some of those "spammer" links (Free TSBs) may just help you one day...

02 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo AC water in floor board fix
I think I found a factory problem that is the cause of water running into the floor board from the air conditioner on the 02 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo.
What cause this is not the air conditioner drain tube being stopped up, least on mine it didnt.
The AC drain tube comes thru the fire wall on the left side of the engine when your looking under the hood, if you will look down below the heater hose the tube sticks straight out about 1 to 2 inches.
If you park where the front end of you car is higher than the back end, park uphill, the water that runs out the drain tube will run back towards the fire wall on the bottom side of the drain tube, them drain down into your floor board.
The seal they have there is not sufficient to stop this water from running thru the firewall and into your floorboard.
And it may leak down in your floor board a long time without you noticing it, for the backside of the carpet has a plastic or rubberized backing and your floor board can be soaking wet and you may not feel the water on the top side of the carpet.
Seems to me they ought to have that tube longer with it turned down extending down a few inches, them it would flow towards the ground and when you park in a place where the front end is a bit higher than the back end this problem would not exist
I know some posted to put sealer around this tube in earlier models.
That is what I have done, but Im thinking about getting me some tubing that is large enough to snugly fit over the drain tube to extend it downwards just a few inches to keep this water from running back down the drain tube, them running down the engine side of the firewall.
I did put some sealant around this drain tube on the engine side of the firewall, but as said, I think I will extend this drain tube just a bit to be sure it does not happen anymore.
If you own a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo I would suggest you check it out to see if your is doing it, if all of them are made the same way as mine this has to be a large scale problem.
Edited to add.
If someone else is better at describing this problem than I am, I surely do not mind you doing so, in fact I think it would be just great, for they may be several who have this problem who are not aware of it yet.

Another cause of a wet passenger floor in the GC is condensation dripping from the cold air duct.
This happens to us when we travel during humid weather in the south.
Leaving the A/C set on recirculate helps since the interior air will get a little dryer.
Insulating the duct would probably help too.

Would it be draining out the one that comes out the bottom?
My wife drives it most of the time, I'll tell her to run it on recirculate
Thanks much for telling about that.
I asked my mail woman if she had any such trouble on her 2000 model Cherokee, she said not with that, just my transmission.
This is aggravating, but not as aggravating as transmission trouble.
