LeetForum.com - Health, Diet and hundredpushups.com
I had an awakening when I applied for life insurance.
I was given a Quote: for more than double the monthly fee due to my "health" I checked with my Dr and my cholesterol is slightly elevated.
The key factor I believe is my weight.
A few years ago I was in the high 230's and really needed to drop some weight so my family and I (parents and wife) joind a program and started eating healthier.
It worked very well as you can see in This Thread .
I went off the diet at the end of 2006 to save some cash while buying our house and over the years I put on 22lbs.
My dad bulked up as well and has now been warned by his DR that he needs to loose weight and eat right.
So we're back on the program and doing very well.
Here is my weight from 2006 - now
Here is my weight over the last 4 weeks, only dieting no exercise
I want to start working out again and decided to start with the www.hundredpushups.com program.
If anyone wants to join in feel free and post your results here.
Tonight - I take the push up test...
No matter how embarrassing I'm posting the results.

Push ups are mostly for training and growing muscles though, it's not something that you'll lose weight from.
In fact, I think it'll only make you heavier (as muscles are heavier than fat).

Jog/run.
If there is one thing I've learned, the nearly 1 sure way to lose weight, is to jog your fat ass off.
I'm having a hell of a time getting rid of my tire around my waist, but I've found I keep coming back to jogging to try and get rid of it.

Yep. I've switched from my ipod nano though, to my itouch as it includes the "tracking" device in it already.
You still need the shoes of course, but the itouch has a lot nicer features as far as showing all your stats.
I slacked off during the winter, as we don't have a treadmill of any sort and I just jog around our neighborhood and work out at home.
I don't know that I would ever feel comfortable working out in a gym with other people.
To me that just seems weird.
If I ever get my stomach down, you can be sure I will post up a shot of it.
I may have to write on it something like "Gutspiller" to prove it's mine.

According to the perfect push up rule I did 22 perfect push ups.
I am supposed to start on week 3, but I'm going to go with week 1 anyway.
I'm curious to see if this will work.
When I hit 22 my arms were burning I went down and partially up on 23 but my body sagged and my arms were toast.
I could not see myself doing 78 more

I'm not going to try this just yet.
I think I will try it out later though.
This past week I finally took charge and have been waking up at 7:10 to do a 20min - half hours worth of jogging.
My itouch reports I'm making progress and going farther than I started.
I'm going to keep this up for quite a few weeks and see what happens.
I started at a fast walk and I'm getting more into a regular speedy jog.
I've jogged 1.75 miles each day on the tail end of this week.
Let's see what I can do next week.
Good luck on your pushups.
I'd like to hear how it goes for you and the difference you see.
I like simple workout patterns where you focus on something and do it, I know it's not really the best way to get the full muscle shape, but I will work on that after I lose my gut.

I just lost 5% of my body weight in 4 weeks .
10% here I come!
I'm glad you are out running again, I remember you being into it.
I figure in 6 weeks when I am done with the 100 push ups program (maybe 7 or 8 ) I should be down about 25lbs and ready to maybe give running a try.
I never really enjoyed it, nut I hear once you get past the first few weeks it can give you a good rush.
Is it true?

I don't know that I would call it a high, but you feel better about yourself as far as the fact that you are doing an fat burning activity.
You also seem to be more alert during the day, at least I am since I've been going in the morning.
If you're losing weight that fast, I may have to try that program sooner than I thought.

The beginning is usually quick, since I went from eating high calorie, high fat foods down to good fiber and protein rich diet.
Getting all 4 food groups into every meal.
It's not a starvation diet either, I eat often and I eat well rarely feeling hungry.
I have a food calculator the you can enter food (even most restaurant chain menu items).
It's insane how much 1 meal could turn out to be.
I have said this in This Thread that a Double QP with medium fries is equal to 5 meals/snacks.
I expect in the next week or so I will only be loosing 1lb a week, but that's still better than nothing.
After the first week of eating right I started waking up feeling fresh and alert throughout the whole day.
The down side is I have been around this weight for many years and I have already retired a lot of my work clothing.
4 shirts I just purchased at $59.00 each and 5 pairs of pants.
This is going to get expensive over the next few months...

After people realize how hard jogging and working out is, they always enjoy eating better to lose weight.
I am still trying to master this on my own.
Does the pushup site have a food eating chart on on things you can eat?
I'd love anything that has something like this listed out and that isn't a plan that you have to subscribe to or buy into.
I think I would benefit from eating better too.
I eat vegetables almost daily, and I rarely already go fast food places, so I don't know if I would see a huge improvement over changing to some meal plan or not, but I'd give it a try to see if I see the results you are seeing.

Me and my girlfriend have started a jogging program a number of weeks ago.
It's a schedule in which we slowly build up the time spent running.
However, after a few weeks I was terrorized by cramps and pain in my feet and lower legs, so I went to a specialist on feet, legs and running.
She made video recordings of me walking and running and used some sort of pressure plate to generate a graphical visualization of pressure from my feet on the plate.
Very cool stuff. Unfortunately it turns out my pelvis isn't completely straight so there's some unwanted pressure on my lower legs when running.
Prolonged exposure can lead to pains and eventually injuries.
I was advised to use a more relaxed training program and build up much more slowly to see how that works out.
We're following a new schedule but it's really, really hard to find the enthusiasm for it all again

You may see results regardless, I only eat fast food once or twice a week, for me it was about how much I ate of the good stuff.
For example a fruit yogurt and an oats and grain bar (which I thought was a healthy snack) had more calories than My entire breakfast, beverages and morning snack.
My double healthy dinner servings also contributed.
The service makes you aware of what you should eat dependent on your height, current weigh, lifestyle and activity level.
It adjusts as any of these items change.
Every 10lbs I drop I loose from my daily allowed calories, but every workout gives me some additional.
The service I use is WW Online you need to pay $9.22 a week, which isn't bad because it works and I am seeing constant results.
The online tools are are pretty good and easy to use.

This may sound weird, but persons in your situation who need a more low impact workout can start out with a water based program to build muscles and extend your range of movement.
I'm not sure how it works on someone with a wacky pelvis but it works wonders with people who experience pain, but want to continue working out.

I'll have to check the site out.
I have some lower pains in my shins, but I figured that's normal?
I even have some pretty good shock absorbing shoes, but maybe I have something screwed inside of me too.
Getting this six pack has been far harder than I ever thought it would be.
I don't really have a problem working out and lifting weights, but apparently my body needs the aerobic work out to lose the fat that is currently hanging over my stomach muscles.

I got special exercises to increase the strength in some related muscles which should help.
I also got special soles for my shoes to dampen the impact on my feet from making steps.
I'm busy figuring out whether it all actually helps.

20 pounds! That's really good.
I'm going to have to look into this.
I really need to get on a better schedule.
Everything I try, I try for a few weeks and am more or less off and on and I can't seem to find a steady pace that fits me just right.
I may just have to find the time to look this program over and try it.
I'm already pretty small, but I could have 20lbs in my stomach, I don't know.
If I could get rid of my gut, I'd be happy.

It's more about resetting your staple diet, to eating more often and better food.
After the first month it was like second nature.
After the 2nd month I stopped logging food and counting.
I figure once a month I will log for a week just to keep myself on track.

Losing weight just by changing a diet is always nice.
Especially when I try so hard to do it by working out and jogging.

G}{, I have question.
I'm planning on training my upper arm muscles (biceps/triceps) a bit.
I'd like to get a bit more toned upper arms.
Not aspiring to be a body builder or anything here, just to get slightly more muscle up there.
What's the best way into doing this?
I would like to use weights (dumbells) to train a bit, but I have no idea what sort of training scheme (duration, reps, weight of the dumbells, movements) I should follow.
Got any tips for me?

If you want something that will tone you up, give you a little more mass than I recommend the p90x program.
It's something you can do at home with minimal gear, it gives you the diet the workout routines and a schedule.
I have watched 2 average - small build guys I work with get trim and cut (with a little added bulk) I'm thinking of starting this program soon once I loose another 15 puunds.
Checkout youtube there are tons of people posting videos of their results as well.

Here is a pic that was taken in October of 2008 which is me at 225lbs,
Since I started my diet in mid April I'm down about 25 pounds now and still going.

And here is a pic of my awesome new Hiking/rock scrambling shoes (also to be used while paintballin')
Sweet pair of Five.Ten Campfours
I always went hiking in my crappy old running shoes, holy crap what a difference, I didn't slip or slide on rocks, great traction on wet leaves and gravel.
The best part was walking for hours and my feet were comfy and dry, not tired wet and achy.

Just finished repeating week 5 of hundredpushups.com because I missed a few workouts while on Vacation.
I took the exhaustion test last night and only knocked out 50 consecutive push ups.
I'm going to go ahead with week 6, but it's seriously getting difficult.
However I am still enjoying the workouts!

I've been watching this thread thinking "....Hmm, good idea" and tonight after putting on a "Skinny" T-Shirt I have decided that my "Gut" has grown too large and my upper arms too skinny for my liking, i'm also out of shape.
I've decided to start using this website and some other exercises to....not build myself up, just become more "defined".
It's embarrasing to admit but i've never done any exercise in my life or played any sports, lol.
I've never had an interest....or incentive to do it before.
I'm picking Monday, Wednesday & Friday as my work out days, doing 30 mins to an hours worth of exercise each day at first.
I just managed to do 14 pushups for the "Test".
Anyone have any suggestions for the mid section?
I'm doing squats and sit-ups too.
Thanks for making the thread G}{!
