Computer illiterate people that think they know things V2 - Facepunch

Computer illiterate people that think they know things V2 Quote: : What's the dumbest thing you've heard a computer illiterate person say? (Before you read on, note that both me & my friend had AOL 56k back then, in this convo) Friend: How fast is your internet? Me: We have AOL, 56k. Friend: Oh yeah, I think we have 96k. (Another friend of mine buys a new HD) Me: How much RAM do you have? Friend: 320GB. (Another friend buys a new computer, and has a new internet service provider with his DSL) Friend: How fast is your internet? Me: About 3Mb/s. Friend: *hits Alt+Ctrl+Del* That's slow, we have 100Mb/s. Your turn.

PS3 has a Quad Core and has a nvidia graphics card :downs:

The whole classic, Me: How much ram have you got? Friend: Uh somthing like 250gb Me: Right, is that DDR5?

(Smug look on my face here) Friend: Yes. :bang: (Also look at my last post on the v1 :3 )

And i'm STILL banned after i mass rickrolled the school via e-mail, it's been a month :argh:

Thinking xbox 360s are better than Pc's.

Quote: : (Post 18040332) Sucks to be you, our teacher let our class elaborately Rickroll the class next door during their lesson on the Nazi Holocaust.

Okay, we've all heard the "i have 200GB RAM" conversation.

Can we get something new for a change?

I used to have a bit of a job at my old school;

I used to go to as a sort of computer technician.

So one day a teacher calls in and says that her cd-drive is broken.

I go in and try it out, indeed it is broken.

I ask what might of happened.

Turns out that she used it as a cupholder.

I hate it when everyone knows that I am kind of good with computers, they ask help for every problem they get.

Most of the time it's as simple as pressing the power on button. People could get some brains.

Seriously.

Our teacher rickrolls us in different ways every Friday :geno:

My mum downloaded "Antivirus 2009" and was adamant that it wasn't malware even after AVG, Norton and NOD32 confirmed it.

About a year ago, my friend's mom's computer stopped working.

It would turn on for a bit and then shut down before he could really do anything with it.

His mom, using another computer, went to Hijackthis and other sites trying to find a solution.

Eventually she wound up reformatting. Even after the format it still wouldn't work.

So my friend took it apart and looked at it. Apparently the fan in the tower had collected so much dust it ceased to move.

Me: What GPU do you have? Friend: What's a GPU? Me: Graphics processing unit Friend: Oh, I have a 24 inch Samsung monitor.

It's really fast

Friend of mine filled her laptop's hard disk, so I was giving tips on how to free up space. Me: Do you have a lot of video files? Friend: Yeah Me: Those take up a lot of room on the hard disk. Friend: But they're not on the disk drive, they're in 'Documents' I facepalmed IRL.

But in her defence she realised what she said shortly afterwards. Me: .... Me: ....so where are 'Documents' stored, if not on the disk drive? Friend: *smashes face into keyboard*

At work we had some bitch telling us (IT professionals) about how her friend told her the reason why she (Said bitch) she couldn't connect to the Wi-Fi because of proxy servers. Wasted half an hour explaining the concept of proxies to her. Same woman also called us out because her printer wasn't working. Tried turning it on and off again?

Quote: : (Post 18043351) You see some people don't quite know what all the gubbins are so i could forgive someone for making this misconception. See I've reached that state where most people would believe any word i say about computers.

I even put a "Delete the system32 folder to make your PC run faster!" on Facebook as a sort of Test. The other techy people i know agree with me that if you are stupid enough to do this you deserve the consequences that befall you.

My grandma bought me Crysis and I told her it wouldn't run with my currents specs, so she went and bought me another monitor.

I was flying flight simulator 2004 and a kid thought it was a 9/11 simulator.

Another situation Him:Oh I have 1 TB of ram.

Me: You mean HD space you can't have 1 TB not even the supercomputers can't use it.

Him: your lying Me: I have a better pc you know yours can't run most games out...

Today Him:FUCK YOU Edited: I was going to kill him. Edited: Quote: : (Post 18040897) I hate it when everyone knows that I am kind of good with computers, they ask help for every problem they get.

One time, a few years ago, my 12 year old friend gave me a link over Steam to this one forum where this one guy had posted so much bullshit about computers. A few of the things he said: If your child is spending more than a half an hour on the computer, it's very likely that he's hacking.

; If your child is lacking behind in school, it's a definite sign he's been spending too much time on his computer. People like this make me want to make it so that people that don't know enough about what their child is doing, they wouldn't be allowed to tell them how to do it.

(especially if their child has a major in chemistry, and they're making some sort of cleaning solution, and his/her parents call the police thinking his child is making a bomb) This is why some people shouldn't be allowed to have kids.

They were either too lazy to pay attention in school, and somehow graduated, or they're too stupid to tell that their kid is smarter than them. Edit: After that, my friend said "according to this, me and anyone else who can win a round of any online game is a hacker"

I wanted to fit as much technology-related classes I could in my schedule for this year, so when my old Media Arts teacher said he had an opening for an advanced student in his 1st period basic class, I agreed.

The class is filled with new(ish) Macs, but he gave me an administrative account with Maya and a pass around the internet's block, plus he's a nice guy, so I won't harass him or abuse this power.

When the basic students come in, though, they take every computer including mine.

I act as a teacher's assistant during that time, and walk around assisting them whenever they have a question about Illustrator CS3, and I learn some stuff I forgot about the program as well. Most of the students are quiet, polite, and don't bug me too much, but there are 5 or 6 students that don't know how to power on the damn computers.

These people didn't know how to open Illustrator or the PDF documents that have the lesson materials, and they call me over to "help" them every 3 minutes.

I'm a relatively nice guy, so I don't complain, but I start to get really irritated when one of these people doesn't know how to use "File >

New" and create a box.

They have instructions for this very reason, with pictures and examples on how to do everything.

There's even one of these students who doesn't turn on his computer until 30 minutes after class starts, and only opens Illustrator another 30 minutes after that. The greatest moment of TA'ing all this is seeing a student come up to the teacher and proclaim that "he's done with all the lessons", and when the teacher goes over to look, he used the pen tool to draw a really stupid face in Illustrator, and had no idea what the teacher was talking about when he was asked simple questions on how to use some of the tools.

He was told to start over from the beginning, and still had no idea what he was doing.

On this computer, my parents use IE, and I use Chrome.

My mom set IE's homepage to hotmail.com because she always checks her email first when she goes on the computer. So, one day my dad decided to use the computer for whatever reason.

Conversation as follows: *dad clicks IE icon once, it gets highlighted* *waits a couple seconds* *clicks it four more times* *our average computer takes little while to open two windows at once* Dad - "WHY ISN'T OUR COMPUTER WORKING I THOUGHT WE HAD A FAST INTERNET" *clicks the icon rapidly* *calls me over and starts raging* Me - "You're probably clicking the icon too much and the computer can't keep up.

Just wait." *5 windows begin loading and opening very slowly* *I cancel the process and they all start closing slowly* Me - "Now just wait.

And only double click the icon." *after all the windows close, he finally gets a single window open* *hotmail loads, sign in screen comes up* Dad - WHY DO I HAVE TO SIGN IN TO USE THE INTERNET NOW?!?!" *facepalm* I probably should've put that in paragraph form..

Oh well. :D

Quote: : (Post 18049862) That reminds me, people often commonly misinterpret the fact that a dual core CPU doesn't not equals to clockspeed x2.

For instance, lots of people believe that a dual core 3GHZ CPU runs at 6GHZ

"Dude I overclocked my power supply to 3000Mhz!1"

In class our teacher was trying to show us something on the PC and it kept redirecting to the completed screen (cause it was a set of problems that were showing up done).

So I offer to help: Me: just a sec Mrs.

M I need to clear the cookies Her: Get out of my classroom!

Maybe you'll think about it next time you decide it's funny to make fun of someone's weight! Wish I was kidding, had to explain to the IT guy in the principle's office to get me off the hook.
