Saving Money for AX - Official Anime Expo Forums

Posted 24 May 2009 - 06:45 AM I know I'm not the only one slowly descending into Financial hell.

I have had to cut back/get rid of many things.

I'm in the process of selling a whole load of my DVD's.

So far though I only have $55 saved.

I think I'm going to make it, if not by the hair on the point of my chinny chin chin (LOL). What have you had to sacrifice for AX?

Posted 24 May 2009 - 07:08 AM I had to cut back on spending my money and am now trying to build up a savings.

I'm currently working on a few paid survey sites to try and save up.So far I have $110 in my savings.

It may not be much, but it's something. This post has been edited by fairuza : 24 May 2009 - 07:09 AM

Posted 24 May 2009 - 11:02 AM Ive been saving up for ax for 3weeks now and got $900 but i recently spent $300 and im trying to save up for a new car to drive me to the airport in a bordering state before july >_>. Atm im sacrificing every hour ive been awake working for the past 3 weeks and for the next upcoming 5 weeks till ax lol.

Sorta self-employed job at a part-time job wage so I really want to get everything going ive been working 12-24 hours straight so far lol. This post has been edited by YeaBoie : 24 May 2009 - 11:03 AM

Posted 24 May 2009 - 11:04 AM i start working for my relatives, menial jobs, i take art commissions and by the end of it all i usually have about 200$

Posted 24 May 2009 - 11:27 AM We stopped eating out & started buying store-brand (or cheaper...

You know like "Always Save" and "Good Day" brand stuff) groceries. We're not selling anything that we wouldn't have sold anyway, but we are selling things like clothes that don't fit, my daughter's old toys, and things we've already replaced or upgraded, like computer parts & such. We're usually TERRIBLY irresponsible spenders, so we're keeping that in check as well.

If we don't spend $150 on a new set of speakers for my computer, we can hold onto it for AX!

XD So I can't say we're really "sacrificing" anything, we're just not overindulging. Back to top MultiQuote: Reply

Posted 24 May 2009 - 02:37 PM I just cash my paycheck and I'm done.

Sadly, last year I did that, and I still didnt have enough money (evil roomies who dont bring cash for the room!!!).

I'll have to make sure the room cost is covered FIRST this year, BEFORE I splurge on dinner.

Hope to do it again this year!!

Fun stuff. Back to top MultiQuote: Reply #11 captainc2 Wasabi Group: Members Posts: 34 Joined: 26-April 09 Posted 24 May 2009 - 03:15 PM I've been trying to quit smoking, and I decided to use AX as a motivator.

All the money I don't spend on cigarettes I've decided to put towards spending money at AX as a reward.

So far I've managed to save about thirty just from that...which isn't a whole lot, but it should top out at about a hundred by July. So that on top of the money I've been saving from recycling and selling games at Gamestop I shouldn't be too bad off.

=D

Omg, do you know if they take DVDs too? Well for saving up ive been trying "TRY...ing..." to not spend on just...stuff that i REALLY dont need, im a compulsive buyer and its sooo hard to cut the habit!

To make it worse i work at the 99c only store and they get GREAT stuff that i just have to grit my teeth to not buy UGH!

Posted 24 May 2009 - 06:58 PM Well to be honest before this year I'd never afford it without my mom since I barely covered my own bills without her.

She picked up $50 worth starting around Jan/Feb so by June I could pay for airline and hotel.

July I keep my monthly left over ($100) plus what ever she gives me as a early birthday present and that's what I had for AX that year. This year I'm a bit lucky as I moved out of my place to help my parents and since we left it immaculate I got my $200 deposit back.

So by March I had $310.

Problems came up but I'm back on track money wise so far.

Now that I'm living with them the costs go down since we're splitting it three ways.

This year I just saved $50 a month from my somewhat increased monthly left over.

Posted 24 May 2009 - 09:09 PM I got a job...However I have yet to pick up my paycheck yet.

>_<;;;

Posted 25 May 2009 - 02:10 AM Well, everytime I get paid, my pay gets direct deposited into my bank account but $75 of it goes in my saving account.

If you keep doing that for over a year, it'll turn into a lot of dough.

Posted 26 May 2009 - 10:22 AM I just save 1 month before ax, my budget is $900 which I always got left over money. And I worked year round pretty much giving up my life so I dont have to give up anything else in life to go to AX.

Posted 26 May 2009 - 03:28 PM Saved up moving and gaining some online for doing advertising or getting paid for doing other internet news reports, etc. Its hard but I got about 50-75 dollars saved up.

(80% less than what I had last year). I will be leaving the country a few days after AX so I decided to help my parents pay for my ticket by using 250 of my own dollars. But its the experience, not the things you buy thats awesome . I'm 16, so that $75 will bring me full circle for AX .

Posted 26 May 2009 - 06:11 PM if you have a job...work you friggin fingers to the bone... if you dont have a job, and your birthday is before AX and hasnt passed..only ask for gift money!

There! and if A and B fail...get a tent and some cup'o noodles...its gonna be a harsh 4 days.

Posted 26 May 2009 - 06:53 PM Well as for me I currently have around $150 dollars in my checking account...I plan to not touch it AT ALL except for paying for my part of the hotel room I'm staying at. I have a job so its not too bad, but I'm on vacation until June 13th....so I won't really be getting any income until then, so I'm going to have to beg my manager (I work at GameStop btw) to give me more hours so prolly around 30 to 35 depending on how many available hours we got. There's also the issue of monthly car payments D: I gotta shell out $350 a month for it which is the reason for my checking account to be on the low end at the moment, thankfully though my mother has offered to cover the costs for this month and next month to help me get by with enough. sagasuai, on May 24 2009, 06:50 PM, said: GAME STOP!

Omg, do you know if they take DVDs too? And we do not take in DVDs anymore, it just caused a lot of hassle and we never really sold used DVDs well so we cut it short...I know we sent our remaining DVDs some place that could sell them, I think it was somewhere near Universal (in CA) it has a similar name to ours, like Movie Stop or something of the sort D:
