Israeli official: Swine flu name offensive
ERUSALEM (AP) The outbreak of swine flu should be renamed "Mexican" influenza in deference to Muslim and Jewish sensitivities over pork, said an Israeli health official Monday.
Deputy Health Minister Yakov Litzman said the reference to pigs is offensive to both religions and "we should call this Mexican flu and not swine flu," he told a news conference at a hospital in central Israel.
Both Judaism and Islam consider pigs unclean and forbid the eating of pork products.

Although I was stupid enough to initially think it was like Mad Cow disease, this NAME CHANGE clarifies it's not just goys like myself that are vulnerable.
I can see where that's offensive/irritating.

Most Israelis are embarrassed by this dude's statement.
He is right, though, and is not threatening anyone with violence...
Though he did include "Muslims" in his statement.
Not because he gives a shit about the name offending Muslims, but because when a Jew says something like that, with not even an implied threat to violence, he is ridiculed (see OP).
But as soon as you mention "Muslim", people fear riots and killings so they pay attention and "respect different cultures".
As I said though - most Israelis are embarrassed by his statement.

He is leader of the Agudat party in Israel.
He called for the renaming of Swine flu to Mexican flu because swine are not Kosher.
