No Original Desktop Icon For IE7 - PCbanter

I had to repair a user account on my computer.

When I had finished, I noticed that there was no original desktop icon for IE7.

I know how to make a shortcut of it, but I would like the original icon back.

I checked in the display properties and there was no option for it.

Can anyone help me get the icon back?

I'm happy to use the shortcut, but I would prefer to use the original icon. Thanks

They took it away - "943460 removes that Customize Desktop option in WinXP and Win2K03 machines running IE7" The Resolution in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555849 will place the IE icon on the desktop but it will NOT bring the Customize Desktop option back. I'm not comfortable accessing the registry editor on my own, I know the repurcussions of making an error.

Are the steps included in the article simple and easy for a novice like me to follow?

Posted same issue in this Newsgroup March 30 after doing clean install of XP Pro SP3.

I didn't have Key No.

Mention in MS article http://support.microsoft.com:80/kb/555849 and had to create the key number as follows: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ CurrentVersion\Explorer\HideDesktopIcons\NewStartP anel In the right hand pane, right click and select New Dword Value. Rename the new value 871C5380-42A0-1069-A2EA-08002B30309D with a data value 0. Close the registry editor and hit the F5 key to refresh the desktop. "tkbirdie" wrote in message ... In my previous post, apologies for leaving out brackets. If have to create new Dword Value, should be {871C5380-42A0-1069-A2EA-08002B30309D} "tkbirdie" wrote in message ... I had to repair a user account on my computer.

Tx for link - great website for all IE issues. Reg.script fix to restore IE desktop icon much quicker and easier to use than manually editing registry.
