RMweb • View topic - Computer IE7. How do I get rid of...?

When I first loaded IE7, I was with Virgin.net.

I left them some time ago mainly because they could not transfer service for weeks rather than days. My IE7 header bar is currently showing 'RMweb - Post a new topic - Microsoft Internet Explorer provided by Virgin.net' How do I get rid of the 'Vrgin.net' bit?

I've had a quick look in the IE7 programme file but there is nothing obvious and I deleted every file related to Virgin when I left them. So what is the file name of the header bar and how do I edit it short of a delete and re-load? Incidentally, this file has survived an update from IE6!!

FWIW mine did an update and downloaded IE8 yesterday - all seems fine Shortliner(Jack)away up here in the Highlands Manager and Chief Design Engineer, Bodging Department, H Robinson & R Goldberg Contraptions (Highland) Unlimited Grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked anyway, the good fortune to run into the ones I do, and the eyesight to tell the difference.

The only way I know of doing it is to edit the appropriate entry in the registry via start >

Run > regedit then CTRL F and search for 'virgin.net' and edit the registry key;

But that's not for the faint hearted.

Hopefully someone has an easier solution.

Thanks Spamcan, if nothing else shows I will try that. Shortliner, so far so good with IE8 but what are the extra features?

Do you reckon that's it?

Don't know of any other way than Spamcan suggested. Here's how to add and remove branding... If you wish to replace the Microsoft Internet Explorer with your own brand, use regedt32 to navigate to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main On the Edit menu, Add Value name Window Title, as a string (REG_SZ) data type.

Enter a text string. When you open a new Internet Explorer window, all your window titles will have your text string appended. To remove the custom title, simply delete the Window Title value name. Might want to create a restore point for windows before trying this Paul - I can’t remember with chickens are you supposed to play dead or punch em in the nose?

Spot on 54Strat. I now have RMweb.Post a reply - Microsoft Internet Explorer for David White. First, exit all running programmes, press start >

Run > regedit as Spamcan61 said. Couple of twists.

Firstly Regedit32 doesn't exist.

Just use Regedit.

Secondly when you get to the actual file (and there it was with Virgin.net as large as life), click on the far left logo showing a and b in a little box.

This brings up the text string in an editable box.

Change it as I did to what you want to see and press OK, use 'file >

Exit' to leave, fire up IE and there it is!! Like magic. Thanks fellas.

I'm sick of IE. Firefox is alot better than IE has to be said.

IE is like a cullinder and full of bloody bugs

I actually changed to Firefox to use this forum as Netscape couldn't post!

A big wrench as I've been with Netscape since version 1;

I've never used IE and don't intend to. I was tempted to suggest 'FORMAT C: /U' as an answer to the question in the original post, but decided not to as it wouldn't really help. Simon.

Took a lot longer but ended up in the same place as 'regedit'.

Older programme, perhaps?

IE is like a cullinder and full of bloody bugs I downloaded firefox when the IE security thing rose its head a short while ago - never switched back, much better.

I tried Safari as well, but wasn't too keen on it.

I know I'm mad, I've always been mad

If I were to switch to Firefox, can I delete IE7 without doing any damage?

Regards David "CV" White "When all else fails, read the instructions" "Respect is something one has to have in order to get"

I'd leave IE installed, as it's quite integral to windows which relies in IE for the odd update.

I'm not sure if you can successfully remove IE tbo. Just make FF your default browser and forget about IE. Paul - I can’t remember with chickens are you supposed to play dead or punch em in the nose?

I think you would be better to keep IE7 and install Firefox to use for everyday access to the net.

If for any reason Firefox stops working you will have IE7 to fall back on.

Only yesterday I had to use IE to access a site as Firefox would not load it for whatever reason.

Had I not had IE still installed I would not be able to access the site.

I still believe Firefox is far superior to IE though and the Google search function is way better on there. Regards Mod5

Regards Mod5 For those odd websites which don't like Firefox (and they are few and far between) - you can download a plugin called 'IETab', which makes FF appear like IE to those certain websites.

Really you should never have to use it, but there are one or two as you said.

OK. That's it. I'm on Firefox now.

Seems much faster.
