Photoshop 6 gurus - question reg. GIF export/pallete adjust - MyUnreal BBS
Ok, so i'm stumped here.
I swear i've already done this and i can't recall.
I don't know the technical words for it, and i'm sure there's a view tab of some sort i'm missing...or something.
here we go:
in photoshop 5 and 5.5, you could change the image mode to indexed colour.
After doing that, if you went to file>export>gif 89a, you could use the dropper to pick which colours would be transparent (remove them from the palette).
is this possible in photoshop 6?
I can't seem to figure out how.
Any tips are appreciated.
i know it's prolly something stupid like having to take it out to image ready and do something from there, but who knows...

When you change the mode, there is a check box in the mode window that says, "TRANSPARANCY"
Make sure that when you change modes, that you check this box.
You can then use the color picking tool (eye dropper), and select the color that you want.
You can then go to the Pull Down Menu, and choose, Select>
Color Range, and this will marquis everything that is that color.
Hit the delete key, and all of those colors disappear, showing you what you will have as a transparent background gif.
Maybe there's a shorter, way but this works for me.

You can always try the Export Transparent Image Wizard located in the menubar under Help ->
Export Transparent Image.
You need to select the area to be made transparent before using the wizard though.
You can do this either with the MagicWand tool or by going to Select ->
ColorRange.
