Pittsburgh Steelers Message Board - The Steelers Forum - Decision-making time

There was no rest for the weary in the days following the Super Bowl, because preparations had to be made for free agency, which begins on Feb.

27. Among the unrestricted free agents are three starters: tackle Max Starks, cornerback Bryant McFadden and guard Chris Kemoeatu.

The other UFAs are tackle Marvel Smith and quarterback Charlie Batch, both of whom were on injured reserve, wide receiver Nate Washington, tackle Trai Essex, linebackers Keyaron Fox and Andre Frazier, punter Mitch Berger, cornerback Fernando Bryant, quarterback Byron Leftwich and defensive end Orpheus Roye. The team’s restricted free agents include tackle Willie Colon, linebacker Arnold Harrison, cornerback Anthony Madison, tight end Sean McHugh, guard Jeremy Parquet and safety Anthony Smith.

I'd love to keep: Starks, McFadden, Nate, Keyaron Fox, Anthony Madison, and Byron....I know Byron is probably gone. I wouldn't mind if they kept Kemoeatu and Smith if they can't get any better.

I have no problems with Sean McHugh either, other than a-hole Arians doesn't use him.

I have said before, the scary proposition is resigning Starks and having him turn fat and complacent.

Which is a real possibility in my opinion

I don't think McHugh even makes the cut next year, assuming he gets offered a contract to camp. He couldn't even make it as a backup TE for the powerhouse Lions, for Pete's sake.

Davis get most of the time at FB for a reason.

I'd take him any day over McHugh at FB. Maybe you were watching McHugh play for Tennessee, Green Bay and Detroit before he was cut by all three.

More than once. ::)

If you ask me, cut them both and sign a REAL FB.

Not a halfback trying to play FB.

Not a TE that lines up in the backfield.

A real honest to God FB that can lead block for a RB.

Davis blows...i hope we cut his ass.I watched every down of every play and McHugh didnt even start to see playing time until the Browns game.Right about the time that he running game started doing better. McHugh is a much better blocker than Davass

No I don't watch the games.

I just check box scores.

::) Well let's all crown McHugh the new James Harrison.

I am with whoever said cut them both and get a real fullback.

Actually I like McHugh because he is dirt cheap and fills a couple roles for emergency purposes.

Head to head fullback competition I don't think I could take McHugh but that doesn't mean Davis is any good.

With all our talent at runningback,  Carey Davis is very expendable.

He is listed as a fullback and that he is not. I'd like to keep Nate, McFadden before any of the others.

Leftwich is a pipe dream in my opinion.

I guess Chris Kemeoatu will be some stability to our line and possibly he'll improve. With our Steeler success of having two Super Bowls these past four years,  do you think this will draw some quality players that might want to get a ring instead of a big paycheck ?

Paychecks appeal to everyone except a few older players who are at the end of their careers.

What's everyones opinion on Starks ?

Despite the big contract they put on him this season,  what would you say is fair for him to stay on the team ? With this question brings more questions.

Do you keep him because he is a good player or a you can get him at a good price ? We don't do screens anymore, is it because our guys can't block ?

Is Max capable of blocking on screens to the runingback ?

Are any of our guys capable of that ?

Starks is actually a monster ....when he wants to be that is.

Then there is the complacent Starks, thats the Starks we don't want but when you look at this guy, he is very young and at 6'8" and 320 lbs he has all the tools to become a completely dominating monster.

I've seen some signs of that.

I've seen him destroy D linemen this y.ar and show quickness on pulling blocks.

I'd like to keep him.

Mchugh is the odd man out IMO..i think carey davis brings a lot to the table in terms of special teams and pass receiving..he's a capable blocker too
