OCR - A2- Philosophy of Religion - ALL EXAMS - The Student Room

Re: OCR - A2- Philosophy of Religion - ALL EXAMS   im quite scared because i have other more important exams on the same day (economics 5 and C2) im going to start my revision about 3 days before the exam, i haven't really paid attention this year is this a stupid plan?

Re: OCR - A2- Philosophy of Religion - ALL EXAMS   I haven't really started revising it yet as I'm finding it okay and doing well in past papers and stuff. Chemistry and Maths are my main priority at the moment.

I have C3 the same day I've got to be isolated and all sorts.

Pftt. The synoptic is a bit of a cruel one though.

Will you be able to fit everything in ?

I'd just do a little bit every day about 10-20 minutes if I had other more important exams.

Pftt. The synoptic is a bit of a cruel one though. What did you get last year? Yeah , its not that bad its just a time killer cause you have to learn soooo much. I've done most of the synoptic questions so I find that the easiest.

Is it worth more - 120 UMS and the two ther exams are 90 UMS.

Is that right?

Is that right? I got 270 UMS.

How about you? I've done a lot of synoptic but I haven't quite mastered the art of working out the best things to include in my answer. I really really hope there are 2 revelation questions on the paper.

There has been every year until last year :/ I hope they go back.

Thats what I'm best at.

Your pretty much sorted this year.

You only need 210 UMS. I got a crappy 244 UMS.

Will have to pay the price this year.

Revelation is dry .

Theres not much to talk about, what could you write in your essay?

Theres not much to talk about, what could you write in your essay? Everything!

What can you not talk about?! Its the biggest topic in the whole of Philosophy.

Its completely dependent on the question though. Have you been doing past papers?

Because 50% of the questions are usually Revelation so that means you'd have to do the other 2 if you thought Revelation was dry.

It just really interests me so I can write a lot about it.

I particularly liked "Religious experience is the best way to God" and "By definition a miracle can never happen".

In the spec revelation is split in to three The concept of revelation through holy scripture: the view that scripture is divinely inspired The concept of miracle and criticisms made by Hume and Wiles The concept of religious experince and a consideration of the following forms of religious experinces;

Visions, vocies "numinous" experince I thought you were talking about the first bullet point.

Which is about propositional and non-propositional revelation.

The other two are aright. What is the differences between a religious experince and a miracle?

A religious experince is a miracle and vice versa.

A religious experince is a miracle and vice versa. If you experience a Miracle then you are having a Religious Experience.

And a Miracle is a type of Religious Experience. Lots of things can be classed as religious experiences. Miracles, Mystical experiences, visions, conversions, numinous experiences...

All sorts

A religious experince is a miracle and vice versa. Religious experience may be differentiated from miracles by the public sphere associated with the latter.

For example, you could technically witness a miracle without having a religious experience;

Depending on your definition of miracle.

Hume's account of miracles would lead us to accept it as being so if it were to be considered a greater miracle for it to have happened any other way.

This doesn't necessarily mean that it is a religious experience, however.

If a scientist and a theologian witness a man rise from the dead, I think perhaps only one would have a religious experience.

Re: OCR - A2- Philosophy of Religion - ALL EXAMS   How have you got yours at diffo times?

I have ethics on the 5th, philosophy on the 16th, and the synoptic on like 17th?

All sorts Wait I get it.

Hang on revelation is one of the easiest topics.

Because half of the exam is revelation.

Re: OCR - A2- Philosophy of Religion - ALL EXAMS   I'm pretty confident with ethics;

Our teacher has been amazing .

But philosophy is awhole different story People didn't like it so we'd end up with cancelled lessons constantly as people wouldn't turn up.

Then when we did have elssons we learnt nothing!

We have awful notes which we can't learn from.

3 of us are making revison sheets together for one another, but we understad hardly anything Plus I can only find June 2008's exam paper on the board's website.

Hsa anyone got any previous years questions at all? I did well last year when we had anoter philosophy teacher, but this year is a mess, and I'm terrified. Ruth xx

Ruth xx I find ethics the hardest paper I am ever going to do! Compared to the synoptic and philosophy of religion 2 its got tons of things you need to learn. These two topics are easy Conscience Free will and determinism Then we have chiristian ethics which you have to compare with another ethical theory, could be one from the list below. You have to apply Utilitarianism Natural moral law Situation ethics Virtue ethics Kant’s ethical theory To issues of war and peace, sex and relationships and environmental issues.

(Which you have to learn about and understand) And then chirstian ethics (or the one you have chosen) to the topics above and to practical ethics.

Sooo much to learn.

Is that right? Ahh!

Is that true? The synoptic is worth more?

I feel like I should do well in it because it's the most interesting...

But it's so difficult to work out what to write about.

Especially under timed conditions!

Sooo much to learn. i'm good with all this and i've really enjoyed learning it so i know it .

The teaching style has been so amazing as well that i know loads without having revised for these topics yet. with the synoptic paper, if the questions that come up are mainly focused around ethics, then i should be okay.

It's philosophy that is the worry.

I've started making revision sheets for each topic, as i've bought a few books so am learnign everything from those.

I;m just hoping it will be enough. Ruth xx
