Can't Remove Rogue Anti Spyware - Total Security 2009 - PC Tools Community Forum

I'm working on a laptop that is infected with a Rogue Anti Spyware application called Total Security 2009.

It's a pretty nasty infection that does a lot to keep from being removed.

For instance when running it won't let you launch task manager, a command prompt, the windows management console, add/remove programs, msconfig and won't let you install any anti spyware programs.

After doing a google search i found a way to kill the rogue anti spyware process just after windows loads.

I guess it takes a few seconds to load and begin locking everything down.

In those few seconds i can launch task manager and kill the process.

After that i can use the laptop normally.

I was able to kill the process and download/install spywared doctor.

Unfortunatley even spyware doctor won't get rid of it.

It locates teh infection and says its cleaned but after a reboot it comes right back.

And worst of all when it does comeback it does something to spyware doctor so it won't even load.

It just has a message saying it can't connect to the database.

I have to reinstall it every time just to get it working again.

I've tried clearing my temporary internet files, disabling system restore and running multiple full scans.

I even have spyware doctor scanning rootkits and archives and i can't clean this thing.

Has anyone had this before?

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks

Try scanning with all 3 of the following, 1 at a time: Malwarebytes Antimalware - you may keep this after running as it will not conflict with SD. Superantispyware - uninstall or stop the start up as it will conflict. Avira Antivirus - uninstall when done as you should not have 2 active antivirus programs. All the above are free and should do the job. When done run a full SD scan as well.

You can try Hitman Pro.
