PEI Talk • View topic - Obnoxious Loud Motorcycles
Does anyone else find people whom put the loudest pipes they can find on their bikes annoying?
It doesn't even make the bike sound good, backfiring all the time when throttling or gearing down.
I have owned plenty of bikes over the years, all have been quiet and sound like they are a good running bike, not like it is about to fly apart.
All summer, I try to enjoy my country home and neighborhood.
On a regular basis these jerkoffs with Harley Davidsons and sometimes but to a lesser extent sport bikes run up and down my road.
Most of the Harley Davidsons, I can still hear after they have passed by my home.
If I am outside I can still hear them 7KM away when they stop at an intersection and go again.
Avoiding this noise is one of the main reasons why I moved from town.
The people whom drive these bikes also seem to be the ones whom drive aggressively and constantly speed.
Notice the police don't do ANYTHING and seem more interested in giving people tickets for going 70 in a 60?
A guy I work with got a ticket the other day because his car was too loud...
His muffler had rusted off a few days before and he didn't have the money to fix it right away.
His car wasn't anywhere near as loud as one of these disgusting bikes.

This is a pet peeve of mine.
I was a motorcyclist myself.
I have no issue with bikers...just the FEW ignorant assholes among them.
There are a few of them in Charlottetown.
Almost every day, during the summer, these bikes which have been intentionally modified with headers, pollute our streets with this noise pollution.
These ignorant jerks don't even drive normally.
They will rev up their bike in low gears, racing from stop sign to stop sign.
I've seen these clowns hit 60 and 70 km on downtown streets.
Love to see someone treat such nutjobs with a few pounds of sugar in their gas tanks.

Here's a plan:
Just tell elected officials that as well as being loud, the motorcyclists are pooping on your lawn, and having sex in your bushes.
That'll stop it!!
You just gotta know how to deal with these people....

I have an Idea. Put a bounty on their bikes.
TTBOY and cramsay could shoot the bikes out from under the jerks with their Red Ryder BBguns
BTW.
Here's one of the bad dudes, helmet on and ready for road rash!

As a motorcycle rider & working in Public Safety, I can relate to both sides.
Yep there is nothing more annoying than your windows literally rattteling when a loud bike drives by.
CPD have a Decibel meter & they have conducted random spot checks for cycles & even some cars.
They also attend any motorcycle gathering in the City & test the noise level of the bikes.
ALL motor-cycle dealers in Charlottetown will NOT pass a bike if it has any exessive tampering with the exhaust.
As A biker there is nothing worse than some body in a cage (4 wheeled vehicle) texting or celling or eating or coffee up to there head.
They are not tuned into the road & we as bikers notice this.
Some of the bikers use the "loud pipes save lives" as there reason to run straight pipes.
Are loud bikes annoying?
U-betcha, but so is driving while you text or talk on cell & tipping the head back for that last drop of cafe as your cage veers over in my path.

Exactly !
Most people do not realize its as much about safety as anything

I nearly pissed myself laughing, hearing the excuse that straight pipes are used for safety!
shed can say what he wants.
I drove bike for years.
I even hung with a guy that Raced at Mosport and pitted at the track.
We had a shop and used to work on bikes, so I've been around.
I never met a single person who went with straight pipes for safety.
That's complete bull!
Most cars aren't going to hear the bike anyway, until you are on top of them because of the loud car stereo.
When I drove, it was with the assumption every car was out to get you...it's called defencive driving!
Guys do straight pipes for 2 reasons.
In a high performance bike suitably modified, the straight pipes can give a slight boost in power.
Not something needed with todays huge motors for a street bike.
The real reason most do it is cause they think it makes them cool and will get them laid!
If you want to drive a bike with straight pipes, at lease have the decency to keep the RPM down in residential areas.
The poor excuse for humanity types we are complaining about rev their engines and race through town at high speeds for attention!
You need a car to hear you coming, they invented something called a horn!
Use it!

Sport bikes these days are designed to rev to up to 16 thousand rmp and thats pretty impressive for a 4 stroke engine.
as for speeding and driving agressive.
Modern sport bikes are designed to travel comfortabley at 200km plus.
So riding around doing 90 is a bit of a bore.
As for aggressive when you on a bike people don't even notice you whne you just go with the flow of traffic.
I have had more than one car try to change lanes into me on my ride to work and i only live 15 mins from work.
As for rabbiting from light to light I know with my bike it doesn't like like to run below 5 grand.
. and is at its best between 7 and 10 grand.
I know for a fact that in first gear at 7 grand the bike is doing 60.
So in first gear at 7 grand my bike is not even working hard.
now if you really want to do something useful push your elected officials to bring in displacement limits for new riders.
Maybe not as strick as in the UK but something so the bike manufactures are forced to sell their smaller displacement bikes.
I woulf love to have a 400 cc sport bike to throw around.
Honda had the cbr 125 and kawi has the ninja 250 but i would love a 400 gsxr and not have to import one since the goverment will not let you import one newer than 15 years old We now have graduated licensing for new drivers why not have something for new riders.

ttboy. i know you have been in downtown Ch'town enough at James's place and you've heard the problem.
You know darn well that almost all the extremely loud bikes that are the problem are hogs with large bore engines.
They don't rev high.
in the 4 years I've live here, I can hardly remember hearing small bore bikes that have been a major issue.

Nothing quite like the rumble off a harley...
but.
no reason for straight pipes at all imo.
when they can't attack what you say because it's right...
They go after da speeling, punctuation, or the way you post!

I think eddy boy was directing that comment at me as well, i did not answer because to me, his reply was crass and his own personal experience.
Not everyone else' s.

Nope.
Wasn't directed at you at all.
I didn't see you use the claim that you were an experienced biker, claiming straight pipes were a safety issue.
I just assumed you thought it sounded logical.
if I sounded crass, it might have something to do with the frustration that some bikers who have no respect for others, give bikers a bad name.
