Are you taking prescription medicines? - Survivalist Forum
Without going into detail, how many people take prescription medicines?
Some of these meds can affect peoples long term survivalability - such as heart or high blood pressure.

I keep a 3-month supply on hand, and I always use the oldest first.
Plus my doctor is really great and will give me prescriptions of a few things to have on hand for emergencies like antibiotics, pain meds and such.

Kenx, the question is extremely pertinent to this forum.
Stocking prescription medicine is a vital part of ones preparations for those that need it.
It could be that some people might last longer without food than they would without their medicine.
It could also be one of the more difficult things to stock.
Further, in a prolonged scenario ppl will need to plan for the long term and may need to be learning about alternatives for when their manmade prescriptions are no longer available and and shelve life has rendered stock useless.
Cheers,
-Per.

I think you're saying that you feel the question of the poll is too personal.
I'd have to disagree.
The intention of this forum is to create a community of support and sharing of information.
Bringing such matters to light may help those that have not considered it to better prepare.
The numbers also bring to light the fact that even if you are not on meds, chances are someone in your group is.
Have they stocked their meds?
Do others in the group know how to deal with the specific requirements of their condition?
And remember that you always have the choice of not participating in a poll.
My apologies if I have not interpreted your repsonse correctly - it was a little confusing to me.

If you were taking prescription meds of one sort or another, i would ask someone (like Graywolf) what herbs could be used to help alleviate the symptoms of the malady that plagues you.
Plus i think it would behoove you to find out about alternative meds to help you get by when Bad Times come.
I have a friend that took aspirin once every 5 years or so.
One day he twisted his ankle and we need to walk.
I gave him two aspirin and he never missed a beat.
Aspirin worked for him very well because his body had not built up a tolerance to them.
That is the way i see herbs working during Bad Times, they may not be as powerful (in some cases) as prescription drugs, but your body will have not have built up a tolerance to them.
Hopefully that is correct thinking.

Eeyore - I agree.
It is why I read many of Greywolf's posts with interest and picked up a book on herbs she recommended.

Ken's post does raise a valid point.
Some people are reluctant to speak about thier medical conditions out of pride, shyness or fear.
This is another good reason to establish a close, trusting bond with your group members.

Good point kenno, so ill trust yall.
I take 120 millegrams of an antipsychotic daily.
I have add, ocd and schizoid effective with severe psychotic tendancies.
I have 5 months of the pills stored up but after 5 months im gonna haveta go out on my own, cause not much is safe when i aint on it.
What happens to those of us that depend on our meds to survive among the public???
Its a 90 copay to get my pills i cant afford to stockpile many of them.
So what am i supposed to do???
I cant be around certain people when im not on my meds.
So how do i survive within a group???

Swamp, I was in a situation similar to you for many years.
I would advise asking your doctor for suggestions too.
Besides that you could look into herbal or natural remedies for some side effects or symptoms.
Hopefully Kenno or Graywolf or someone with more experience in the subject will chime in.

OK, I was reluctant at first to answer this question but for those of us who are serious here I will answer this topic.
Just a bit over two years ago I was prescribed xanax lexipro, and a few other anti depressants for a very severe depression that hit me litteraly overnight.
My daughter was living with me and my current wife, obviuosly I was devorced with one child, a girl of 13 years old.
My daughter at 11 years old decided she would rather live with dad because of moms problems and mom taking them out on her.
I was exstatic that my one and only child, a daddies girl was now living with me(us).
We changed her school dist to ours, worked with her to get he caught up to standards of this district and for two years she blossomed into a very popular girl that owned her own CAR15:D .
Then mom started getting wierd with us so I took my X to court for full custody.
After the judge took all into account from my daughter I was rewarded full custody WITH child support and in this state that is RARE.
3 weeks after the ruling on Feb 18th 2005 was the day it was official.
On that evening (it was a friday) she asked if she could walk to her best friends house to do a sleep over like she had a hundred times before so I told her yes but call me when you get there.
The walk was only about 5 blocks total and she had my flashlight, her cell phone, and overnight gear.
Some time had passed and she had not called me so I tried to call her cell but there was no answer so I called her friend Jennifer to see if she had arrived, Jenn replied that not yet "maybe they wont let her cross the road because it looks like an accident up the road all the cars are backed up to my house".
I instantly went numb, jumped in my truck to investigate and stopped by the emergency vehicles.
When I got out of my truck I was 15 feet from a sheet covered body in the road, I knew it was my Jessica,my life, my world because next to the sheet covered body was her backpack.
She had just stepped over the white line getting a lead on two vehicles heading her way when the second vehicle attempted a pass and struck her.
I had to ID her at the scene, she was not tore up at all, just a little blood from her ear and looked like she was sleeping. The first person to stop and help her was a retired army medic from the Nam era that tried to treat her before EMS showed up and he told me later she did not suffer in any way confirmed by the county coroner that it was instant head trama.
A man is not supposed to outlive his children.
The next day I had to make arrangements, the hardest day of my life.
Before we went to the funeral home it started to snow lightly and I looked up to heaven and told God "God, you must have needed her more than I did so Ill trust your plans and actions, but this wont be the last time I see her".
Ive not questioned why or beat myself up with what if's.
Docs put me on strong stuff to keep me "productive" when infact it made me less of what I formerly was so after two months I pulled myself off of those meds.
Determination, hope, and prayer has got me by for a little over two years now.
I have a mission here on this s**thole planet to fufill before I can be with my kid again but it will happen in time.
Here she is, this was taken three days before God called on her.

Man, I don't know what to say.
What can someone say to help that kind of loss.
I have a 12 year old son, who has been the perfect child his whole life.
I've never had to whip him much at all.
Everyone likes him, even strangers.
Now he's going down hill fast, and I worry what he'll be like at 15.
I tell my friends that maybe I should have wacked him every now and then, just to keep him on his toes.
Well, he'll be ok if he can just make it through the next 6 or 7 years.
I was kind of like him myself, and I got over it.
I',m so sorry for your loss, and sorry for the thread drift.
