Heath Ledger, 'Brokeback Mountain' actor, dies... - OD Board
Heath Ledger, 'Brokeback Mountain' actor, dies of drug overdose...
Quote: : Heathcliff Andrew Ledger (April 4, 1979 January 22, 2008) was an Academy Award-nominated Australian actor.
After appearing in television roles during the 1990s, Ledger developed a Hollywood career.
He starred in both critical and financial successes, including Ten Things I Hate About You, The Patriot, Monster's Ball, A Knight's Tale and Brokeback Mountain, and completed the role of the Joker in the forthcoming movie The Dark Knight shortly before his death.

Report: Mel Gibson Distanced Himself From Heath Ledger After 'Brokeback Mountain'
Though Mel Gibson expressed his sorrow this week over the death of Heath Ledger, he had actually distanced himself from the younger Australian actor in the years since Ledger played a gay cowboy in "Brokeback Mountain," according to the New York Daily News.
Ledger chose not to follow Gibson's advice against taking the "Brokeback" leading role of Ennis Del Mar, a ranch hand who falls in love with another male cowboy and all the while struggles with his homosexuality, private investigator Paul Barresi told the News.

Quote: : Heath Ledger, 'Brokeback Mountain' actor, dies...
I am not surprised that Gibson backed off from Ledger when he took the role in "Brokeback Mountain".
Ledger, assuming he even had talent, made a career mistake playing a homosexual.
I also have a personal story concerning Ledger that just happened to me yesterday at the hair salon that I have been patronizing for a number of years.
My hairdresser, whom I have been using for a number of years, is a Christian married heterosexual with two children.
He brought up Ledger's death and I talked about a couple of movies that I liked that he was in- "The Patriot" and " A Knight's Tale", and then I talked about "Brokeback", calling it a immoral movie glorifying the sin of homosexuallity.
Well, the owner of the salon, not my hairdresser, came to me as I was paying my bill at the register and said that he had overheard what I said and was offended.
I said, "So? I don't support homosexuality and think that it is immoral." Then he said, " I don't want you in my shop again." I said, " I won't be back." I paid my bill and left.
The owner of the shop is obviously a homosexual and had I known I would not have patronized the shop.
I have expressed Christian conservative opinions before and my hairdresser agreed and even brought up topics and questions for my opinion.
I am glad that his wife and two daughters did not see him then , for they would have been shamed to see their daddy being gelded under the thumb of a homosexual.
My former hairdresser is the product of a megachurch and leads the rock band at the church.
He is just a spiritually impotent man from a spiritually impotent church.

You did the right thing.
People have to be more vocal about their contempt for minority things.
It's the homos that should be ashamed, not the ones against homosexuality.
Being nice only make homos bolder.

The fact that he had split up with the mother of his child most likely contributed to his broken spirit.
It must be hard for a Hollywood star to meet a decent woman.

Being nice to homos and other deviants and lawbreakers does not do them any favors.
There is a thing called tough love in which you let the person face the consequences of his choices and live in them.
Gibson did the right thing in distancing from this foolish young man who would want to portray a homo.
There was a thing in the past called social sanctions and if one crossed the line, he was cut off from society.
Homosexuality was one of those things that cut one off.
In the past most who practiced homosexuality did it in secret.
I would have voiced my contempt even more that day but for the fact that I was already running late for another appointment I had to get to and the fact that my young children, to whom I have not explained the facts of life , were standing there.
I won the day, for the receptionist, whom I know also to be a Christian, was visibly embarrassed by the childish antics of this fag and whispered that she agreed with me as I left and if she is smart she will look for another job.
The fag lost and he knew it.
My children asked what was wrong and I explained to them that the man was wanting me to accept something that God forbids and I could not apologize and I told them that there are times that one has to stand for what one believes and that was it.
Hairdressers are a dime a dozen, I am not worried about finding someone else.

Very few Hollywood people are decent.
And truly decent spouses are treated badly by Hollywood types for the most part.
I would say also his choice of roles also contributed to his broken spirit.
If he was in a role showing homosexuality was a bad and immoral choice in life, then he would have had no psychological problems plagueing him about it.
But instead the role in Brokeback was designed to show homosexuality in a positive and sympathatic way, and so he was probaly dealing with lots of guilt deep down, no matter what he said publicly to the contrary.

He was one of the few big name actors of his generation who did have talent, which makes it all the more unfortunate that he is known for his role in such a vile film.
I refuse to watch "Brokeback Mountain," but some of his performances were quite good and their messages were positive.
Of course, the Hollywood establishment looks at his most degenerate film and judges him a real artist.

Boudiccia,
It is sad that everyone lives in fear and is biting their tongue to not say anything politically incorrect.
You can still attack sodomite more openly than other groups at least for now.
The consequences of telling the truth about miscegenation or Africans are far worse.
In many ways we already live in soviet state.
