Question: I thought we could do this

This was asked once, months ago, but are we allowed to make an article talking about how to use a specific product.

Such as, how to use Microsoft Excel to create whatever. Is this allowed?

We were told before that it WAS allowed because it's not promotion but is going under the assumption that someone already has that program and needs help using it. I had an article about playing a game in Webkinz and the best way to beat it.

The article did not say anywhere to go and buy a webkinz or to get an accunt or to give money or even to go to the website.

It was cut and dry steps for beating the game to get the most pretend money. And where is my e-mail about it being deleted?

If it weren't for Q's tracker I would never have noticed it was deleted. If you have any Webkinz stuffed animals then you probably have seen Pizza Palace in the arcade.

Pizza Palace is a Webkinz game similar to Diner Dash in that you must move from station to station completing the various tasks.

Multi-tasking is the key to this game as well as the various upgrades that you can choose to make at the various points along the way.

Make the wrong choices and all your work at earning Webkinz Kinzcash could be lost.

These are not cheats , they are simply step-by-step tricks for each level. Level 1 - Do it even if you know how to play.

It’s worth 55 extra cash.

Step 2 Level 2 - Be ready for all quarter pizzas.

Before walking away from the Pizza Maker set it to make the next pizza in line.

Since they’re all quarter pizzas here you don’t even have to wait to know the next order. Step 3 Purchase new shoes, at the end of Level 2. Step 4 Level 3 - Be ready for a quarter pizza to start and then a half.

Do all the pizzas in order. Step 5 Save your money. Step 6 Level 4 - Pick up orders as you go to and from the oven.

This is the only thing you can do while holding a pizza . Step 7 Upgrade the Pizza Oven at the end of Level 4. Step 8 Level 6 - Be ready for one full pizza in the middle of the orders. Step 9 Purchase a new Pizza Topper at the end of Level 6. Step 10 Buy a new Pizza Maker at the end of Level 6.

If you don’t quite have enough money, buy it at the end of Level 7. Step 11 Level 7 - Be ready for one full pizza with two toppings toward the middle. Step 12 Buy the new shoes at the end of Level 7. Step 13 Level 8 - Be ready for two fully topped pizzas, one to open and one in the middle. Step 14 Upgrade your Pizza Topper at the end of Level 8. Step 15 Choose your upgrades and new items as you see fit after these levels.

Enjoy your winnings from Webkinz Pizza Palace and make sure your Webkinz stuffed animals get some new toys for your work!

And if we're NOT allowed to do this, do I need to just delete my other Webkinz game article before you decide to delete it too?

Also, what about articles that talk about how to have a specific type of party, like a Mary Kay party, Avon party, Fancy Nancy party, etc.

All these are companies and there are steps to delivering a really great party if you are the employee of that company.

They don't say, or shouldn't say, start by signing up for the company and doing all this work and blahblahblah.

It should just go right in, as if the person is already going to be throwing a party but isn't quite sure what to do to give the BEST party. Are those now considered spam as well? Same for recruiting for some of those companies.

How to recruit for Avon is different than how to recruit for Mary Kay, which is different than how to recruit for a health company.

None of these articles need be spammy, as they already assume you are part of the company and are attempting to do something within that company (no different than using a product you have already purchased).

Darling, Fancy Nancy is a children's book character.

I've seen the kits and stuff for how to do a party around it though so the comparison still holds.

I agree with you, Tara.

If your article were deleted those should also be gone too.

This is how it'll go, over, and over, and over.

Judgement calls and disputes of same.

There's nothing wrong with commercialism.

If articles about commercial products aren't allowed they need to shut the whole site down, because that's the only reason it's here, advertising..

Posted by mjmetz The site generates interest from advertising that is placed 'around' the articles or because 'words within the article' are highlighted and connect to a paying ad.

But eHow probably doesn't want the article itself to promote a product, because then they don't earn money from that advertising. Just an opinion.

I don't care one way or the other.

Just an opinion. I don't care one way or the other. Posted by kp3028 I agree that that is probably the rationale.

But I think it that rationale is flawed.

That would make it considered among the 'spam' category.

But the fact is, we were told at one time this was allowed because it operates under the idea that you already have the product and therefore you are not advertising it, just helping someone use it properly or better.

If we were told once it was okay (and tons of things on the site, including entire categories such as video games, do it) then we needed to be warned that it was no longer appropriate.

This isn't covered in our new guidelines if it isn't allowed. And if there is something else wrong with the article I'd like to know what.

Tara, I thought if you were telling how to do something with a product name in the title, it was fine too.

Why yours was removed seems subjective.

If they are removing articles with proper names of companies, games or programs, etc.

In the title, this sweep is going to be so much more massive than No.

3. I've seen so many good and very helpful articles that do use them.

Why would I search how to do something on a Mac when I use Microsoft and need to know how to use something?

A generic article that hints at what program to use to handle a function just won't cut it and would be useless to me without knowing it's about a Microsoft program. I'd email Rich or Julie and ask for an explanation...OH, and ASK if the rules have been changed again,if so, then it's past time they tell us about it.

Now that there are NO repeat titles, it is going to make thinking up article titles even more difficult if you can't be specific what you are going to be explaining in the steps.
