Hi guys. I got my new Bsnl broadband connection yesterday.

Got a adsl modem which is of model- nokia siemens networks residential router 1600 as it is printed on the sticker.

Well i didnt get any manual as how to install it.

So please guys can u help me install it on my windows xp desktop.

I am with the home 500 plan.

Thanks in advance.

Why dont u call the guyz from bsnl because the installation requires configuring the modem too for the nokia sei....

Modem and it might be the case that you need a new wiring for broad band service to work nicely so u better call them or visit the nearest bsnl office you r wasting TIME to save RS 250/- regards dronzer Adversity makes some men to break, others to break records

Well I am using BSNL dataone too, and for my case the bsnl guys installed the modem.

Its part of their job when you apply for a broadband connection.

Just contact them, they will definitely help.

^ Used to do it previously, but they've stopped that service now.

They used to do it, when they used to only connect through USB.

But now, by default, they advise the ethernet one, and so just advices over the telephone. Two of my friends recently got 500 connection, and one of them asked me to help configure.

I told him that they should've come.

On calling them they gave this explanation. Anyways, for the OP: Assuming you got the username and password, try connecting the modem through the ethernet jack, or the RJ-45 Jack (I think).

Go to network connections in XP and create a new Internet connection, and give the username and password when asked.

Oh and the connection type should be PPoE.

Try this. ^ Hope this helped.

On calling them they gave this explanation. I was talking about making the connection of modem to the PC, via the telephone line and to the ethernet port, and not configuring the PC for internet. And yes, you were right that they don't configure the PC for using net now-a-days.

Serviceman from bsnl just connected the modem to my PC.

I had to do the configuring part myself, after getting user id, password, portal id etc.

BTW my connection is just three months old.

Ooh may be different rules for different places n e wayz it is good that you were not charged but i was so who ever opting for self installation get the info updated from nearest bsnl office regards dronzer Adversity makes some men to break, others to break records

A thought just occured me,even though i was not charged ,in the official website,it is given that we will be charged,so isnt it weird that the servicemen were passionate .

That is why i gave the link of the website while filling the form did you choose yes on installation required if yes then what ever you do installation charges apply , i got that info from a bsnl jr technical officer (jto) Adversity makes some men to break, others to break records

@anaghsomanclt:- How old is your connection?

They most probably add the charges with the first month bill.
