Ava Luxe Availability? - Basenotes Community
Didn't Ava Luxe used to have a full website for buying?
They were down completely for the month of July, and are now back up ...
But, it seems to indicate that they will only be selling a limited number of perfume oils in the etsy shop.
Is there some other source for Ava Luxe?
I feel like I should know this, but I can't seem to find their full inventory anywhere.

Hi Mo - that's weird- I thought Serena was on holiday for July and if her website is back up then her full inventory should be on her website.
You can check The Perfumed Court for a list of her perfumes too I guess.
I think Serena stopped selling her perfumes on Etsy last year - although I have seen the odd one or two pop up on her Etsy shop .
Having checked too- yeah, I see what you mean - she has redesigned everything - it seems she is reorganising - nothing to buy but 2 perfumes on Etsy .
I liked her old website !
Serena come back soon !

That's a bummer!
I believe Ava Luxe had gone on hiatus once before (that was before I joined base notes I believe -- so maybe 2007 or 2008?)
I hope she'll bring back her full range of offerings soon.

Same here. I have really been into her scents lately and was looking forward to exploring more of them.

I noticed that when checking her website the other day, hopefully she is just re-desigining and will have everything back up soon *fingers crossed* I'm really loving my LTBL and ant to try out some more of her fragrances!

I am just PASSIONATE about my new love for No.
23....and perusing the reviews I now feel the need to sample LTBL and other Ava Luxe concoctions!

In her etsy shop today, there's a new note that her new workspace isn't set up yet and it'll be a few weeks before she's up and running again.
I've been counting down the days until she came back from vacation and now I have no clue how I'm going to make my bottle of LTBL last!
I'm almost out! I think I need to start ordering it in bulk.
Or, even better, maybe she'll come back with the 60mL size again!
|

I actually like the 30 ml size...
I was looking forward to buying more from her;
Hope the store comes back!

Yes, I hope she'll be back in full-force again soon.
I am another fan and have worn No 23 a lot this summer.
I'm actually looking forward to winter so I can snuggle up in Madeline again...
She did indeed close down her perfume-making for a while but was nagged and begged to restart.
When she came back she stopped selling sample vials of her perfumes (but you can buy samples via The Perfumed Court).
I imagine it must have been taking up an enormous amount of her time to make samples, so stopping will have freed her up to concentrate on creating perfume and jewellery.
I've been re-reading Serena's page on Facebook and there's no mention there of any plans to stop making perfumes, so I suspect this is a simple hiatus while she redesigns things.
I certainly hope so.

Gosh there's a lot of love for No 23 - I must check this one out!

If you like Tam Dao, you'll LOVE no.
23! They have a similarly excellent sandalwood note, but No 23 has a few other notes in there that actually only seem to enhance the sandalwood.
I think No 23 is a little more feminine, but both Tam Dao and No 23 are perfect unisex options.

Oh crap. I was going to buy two new AL's this month: Cafe Noir and The Beach.
Guess I'll spend the money on a couple of Sonoma Scents I've been wanting: Femme Jolie and Jour Ensoleille.
Plan B. Maybe she'll be back up completely by the next month or two.

I'm so sad! Just got an email from Serena stating that she will no longer be selling edp :-( Perfume oils only from now on.
How devastating is that?!

Yikes... I'm glad I bought Kretek earlier this summer.
I almost chose not to, thinking I'd wait until fall/winter.

What!?! Tell me it ain't so.
Indefinitely? Temporarily?

AH HOLY CRAP!
*eyeing my latest bottle of Love's True Bluish Light warily*
This has to last me...for the rest...of my life?!

Quote: : AH HOLY CRAP!
yeah that was my first reaction.
I was thinking about Hong Kong Garden and one of the ambers...
Oh well...
Too many perfumes (and perfumers) too little time.
Sonoma Scent Studio is a good house to explore as well.
|
|
 |
|
 |
 |
|

|
Hasn't she done this before though?
I don't know much about the house (scents weren't my thing), but I recall a similar story with her in the past.

Holy crap is right Why oh why
No more EDP ???
I can't believe it!
C'mon Serena - if it ain't broke, don't fix it !!!

I hope Serena comes back.
Some of her fragrances are among my all-time favorites.

I am sure some of her perfumes just won't smell the same as perfume oil .This is indeed sad

I'm so bummed about this.
I had at least 4 on my fall-full-bottle list.
Her scents were amazing....ok, deep breath and move on....but not happy about never having a bottle of LTBL, Turkish Vanilla, and several of the incenses
|
|
 |
|
 |
 |
|
 |
|
Maybe she just needs a break from it for a while...she has to have been very busy!
FINGERSCROSSED.
|
|
 |
|
 |
 |
|
 |
|
I'm thinking of Gardenia and Gardenia Musk .
Midnight Violet...
Thank goodness I have two .
|
|
 |
|
 |
 |
|
 |
|
I do hope she comes back...
I would imaging that basenotes alone generated a lot of business for her...
But maybe not enough

What I don't understand is how she could just pull the carpet out from under us.
At least let us know before she took her vacation that she wouldn't be making edps anymore.
Then we could have at least bought what we wanted/needed, end of.
I love several of her fumies, I'm really quite peeved.

Working by and for oneself isn't all that simple....
It is completely consuming.
Why not give it some time, no ?
This is NOT a personal affront.
[ Has anyone checked out the economy lately ???
]
I love her work very dearly myself.

It's a tribute to her talent that so many of us are dismayed by this news, but if she felt she couldn't sustain production at a certain level, or if she just decided she needed to scale down and step back, I wish her all the best.
I think her previous hiatus was due in part to being overwhelmed by other things.
It happens.

It happens. This is true.
I do think Serena Ava Franco is a talented perfumer and although I understand that she is a one woman show and the work is all consuming - I feel she has taken a step back by not making EDPs anymore and extrait.
Not everyone enjoys perfume oils .
I do wish her the best because she is a very nice person too and we all need a break ,a change up .
If I have to buy perfume oil by Ava Luxe then I guess I have no choice because I still support small business artisans especially small business women artisans like Serena.

Maybe she had trouble with shipping.
The USPS told me that sellers get a special license or somesuch in order to legally ship fragrances.
Perhaps this formality is prohibitive for a small businessperson such as Ava Luxe.
I know if it were me, I'd try to figure a way to deal with obsessive restrictions that dampen economic and creative activiteis.

What I don't understand is that she has just redesigned her website, is getting new workspace but is no longer doing EDPs and extrait.
It doesn't make much sense.
If her problem is shipping, I hope she'll find a way around that because surely perfume oil is still fragrance and a liquid.
I mean if USPS still makes us send perfume samples by ground ( when they 'know' about it ,that is ) because it's ' a dangerous substance' then 5mls of perfume oil would be subject to the same rule ?
Anyhow all is speculation

So sad I was really enjoying her fragrance so far and was hoping to test out several others - feels like the whole thing has happened quite suddenly

Anyhow all is speculation Oils are not hazardous, but alcohol is, according to the rules.
It doesn't make sense to me, but that is where the USPS has drawn the line.
Also, with oils, she can probably work in slightly higher concentrations making the end product smaller and less $$ to ship.
I agree though--all is speculation.
In my own life, it is usually not one single thing that causes a change, although sometimes there is a larger dominating issue.

I believe that the problem with shipping EDT and EDP is that they are alcohol-based "flammable liquids" which are prohibited in the mail.
Perfume oils are not as flammable.
I have been bemoaning the disappearance of the old Body Shop perfume oils...so I'll give No 23 a try in its oil formulation.
I may be quite pleased!
However, I am disappointed to see that Love's True Bluish Light is not on her list of fragrances any more.
I have not tried it, but there is a vial in my basket at TPC because of what I've read in reviews here.
Speaking of that, I know that TPC takes some heat sometimes for being a little more expensive for decants than other sample-offering stores or swapping/selling sites.
But, this is a situation that makes one appreciate them...They have an excellent selection of Ava Luxe scents in many formulations.

Yes Mo - I looked at TPC last night feeling comforted that they still have the old Ava Luxe perfumes.
I am really suprised re.
LTBL- because I am sure it was Serena's bestseller.
I will try out the new perfume oils though.
LTBL is a gorgeous vanilla, white amber and musk combo - addictive- I haven't found another that matches it and it lasts too .
|
|
 |
|
 |
 |
|
 |
|
I tried both LTBL and Milk only in oil concentration and while I can't compare them with the EDP or extrait, they were very nice in their own right.
Not a whole lot of sillage but very good staying power (over night).
Perhaps she will change her decision though, or maybe she'll even start selling in boutiques one day if there is enough demand.

If the big issue is the trouble and expense of shipping alcohol-based perfumes, perhaps a dedicated customer could contact her and arrange to purchase an undiluted blend of the fragrance components (without any base).
This could be diluted at home in perfumer's alcohol to yield an EdT/EdP.
Too much trouble for the average customer, I'm sure, but if you've gotta have it...

Has anyone contacted Serena directly about any of this...?

Important rules of captialism: 1) Build a better fragrance and the world will beat a path to your door.
2.) Have product when the client wants it.
Out of stocks are unacceptable 3.) Closing your site for even a short time is committing business suicide.
4.) The client is always right.
5.) Reliability and quality product: see rule #1.

Beautifully put, N_Tesla!
Even if things are going on in her life, business has nothing to do with that.
She's still making tons of jewelery and perfumed oils!

In order to set aside all the speculation regarding Avaluxe I have emailed Serena and asked what is going on.
I also asked if I might share her reply to my message, when it arrives, with the Base Notes community so, we'll see if a reply is forthcomming.
